Your Safety, Our Priority.

Metro is continually improving safety and cleanliness through partnerships with law enforcement, a customer-focused Transit Ambassador Program, advanced technology like 24/7 camera monitoring and emergency call systems, crisis response teams, and physical design enhancements.

Nothing we are working on is more important than addressing public safety on our Metro system.

  • Installing throne units that are portable, ADA accessible, touchless and free-to-use.

Taller Faregates Pilot

We're Innovating by:

  • Piloting different fare gate models that have shown significant improvements in fare compliance at Washington DC and Bay Area.

Feeling Safer

By adding brighter lighting and expanding cell service to all underground stations and tunnels, Metro is ensuring our riders feel safer too.

Cell Service Underground

100 of underground stations will have cellular service in 2026.

Riders can have greater peace of mind:

  • Transit Watch App can be accessed even in underground stations
  • Access all 12 K line stations with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon
  • Enjoy access in all underground stations except Little Tokyo, Historic Broadway, Grand Ave Arts/Bunker Hill Stations which are only available with AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile

Improved Lighting

We’re implementing:

  • Upgraded cameras and improved lighting to enhance monitoring and visibility.
  • Station redesigns with consolidated entrances, brighter lighting, and added music to reduce loitering.

We’re strengthening partnerships to address societal issues.

When the crisis of homelessness, untreated mental illness and drug addiction spill on to Metro’s system, we help connect people to supportive services and housing.
