Frequently Asked Questions

Why was this corridor selected?

This section of I-405 carries more than 300,000 vehicles daily, with high congestion and collision rates, making it a priority for improvement.

What are TSM and TDM strategies?

Transportation Systems and Demand Management strategies improve efficiency without adding lanes. Examples include ramp meters, signal coordination, traffic monitoring, and driver information systems.

What are auxiliary lanes?

Auxiliary lanes help drivers merge or exit more safely by providing additional space between on- and off-ramps.

What is the environmental process?

Metro is conducting environmental studies under CEQA and NEPA, including public input, technical analysis, and preparation of draft and final reports.

What environmental studies are included?

Studies cover air quality, noise, traffic, biology, water, and more, with mitigation strategies proposed as needed.

What are Complete Streets?

Complete Streets improvements enhance access and safety for all users, including new sidewalks, bike facilities, lighting, crosswalks, and ADA upgrades.

Will any property be acquired?

The project does not propose permanent property acquisitions. Temporary construction easements may be needed and are under review.

When will the Environmental Document be released?

The project team anticipates releasing the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) by summer 2026.
