Real Property Management
Metro provides management and administration of real estate agreements covering more than 250 miles of rail Rights-of-Way (ROW) and bus properties throughout LA County. This work includes the coordination of utility crossings, leases (for land, signboards, etc.), license agreements, Right-of-Entry (ROE) permits, easements, surplus property sales, and support for all agency departments when working through the complexities of real estate property management on public lands.
Does Metro own property throughout LA County?
Yes, Metro owns property and ROW throughout the county, including the City of Los Angeles. You can visit our property listing map.
Does Metro lease its owned property?
Yes, if you are interested in leasing Metro-owned property, please contact the assigned real estate officer that manages the area of the subject property. You can find the real estate officer by visiting our property listing map.
Leases for Metro-owned properties are generally limited to short-term, temporary uses only. No permanent improvements are allowed.
If I want to lease Metro-owned property, who do I contact?

Can I buy Metro property?
Yes, but only property that has been declared surplus by Metro internal departments, and then subsequently rejected by other public agencies for their inability to use (pursuant to the Surplus Land Act).
Report an issue with a Metro property and/or Right-of-Way
Please contact Metro Customer Relations to report issues such as flooding, maintenance issues, graffiti, weed abatement, etc.
If you are a current lessee, please contact your assigned real estate officer (see above).
Metro Adjacent Development Review (Development Project and Utility Project Coordination)
To ensure safety, developers, utility companies and other third parties must consult with Metro for development, construction and maintenance activities occurring within 100 feet from Metro ROW and other real estate assets. Please visit the Metro Adjacent Development Review for more information.

If I need access to Metro property, is a permit or other agreement required?
Yes, a permit or other agreement is required to access Metro properties and ROW. These agreements will require insurance, and usually a one-time administrative fee. Also, additional review fees and costs may be incurred, which will vary depending on request.
How do I apply for a Right-of-Entry (ROE) permit or other agreements?

What are the costs for a Right-of-Entry permit?
The cost varies depending on use type and length of time. Also, review fees and costs may be incurred which will vary depending on use.
Special event use of Metro property
A permit is required for special events using Metro owned properties. In addition, insurance will be required. To begin the application process for a special event permit, please contact us by sending email to ream@metro.net.
Station Vendor Retail Permit for Commercial Activities
A permit is required for certain commercial activities to take place at certain designated properties and station plazas subject to reasonable rules and regulations regarding time, place and manner, for the purpose of generating revenue. What is the cost for a Station Vendor Retail Permit for Commercial Activities?
The cost is $3,000 per year.
What are the insurance requirements?
Insurance requirements are subject to specific types of uses and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
The formal name to be listed on all insurance documents for Metro is “Los Angeles Country Metropolitan Transportation Authority or LACMTA.” Metro should be named as certificate holder and additional insured.
Leasing and use of Metro Headquarters building

Can I rent a meeting room at Metro Headquarters?

Filming on Metro properties or ROW
Metro provides bus and rail service throughout Los Angeles County. Since Metro is an integral part of Los Angeles County’s image and history – its facilities, vehicles, and equipment are often featured in movies, television programs, commercials, print ads, and documentaries.
Metro can provide production companies with site locations, vehicles, equipment, and parking for use in their productions. Contact Metro’s filming representative to discuss your particular needs as restrictions on days, hours, and types of filming may apply. Metro is happy to discuss your filming needs.
