Metro’s Student Field Trip Program provides free rides for 1st–12th grade schools in Los Angeles County.

School & Student Requirements
- Grades 1–12
- School located in LA County (Public, Charter, and Private)
- Maximum 40 (Students + Adults)
- 5:1 student - to - adult ratio required (1st - 6th grades) 10:1 ratio (7th - 12th grades)
Trip Requirements
- Monday-Friday, 10 AM - 2 PM
- Submit request minimum 3 weeks in advance
- One field trip per teacher per year. Trips are limited to 5 per day
- Trips to 40 approved educational destinations only
School faculty and adult chaperones shall accompany and assume all responsibility for the safety, supervisions, and proper conduct of students. The care and control of the students rests solely with the school faculty, adult chaperones, and school district who shall assume all responsibility for the safety and well-being of the students.
Students ride FREE with GoPass
Students ride FREE with GoPass, which gives them unlimited Metro rides all year. For your field trip request, Metro will provide passes for all chaperones, including teachers.
FAQs
Yes! Schools located anywhere in Los Angeles County qualify for the program, including public, private, and parochial schools serving grades 1–12.
GoPass is a separate program that provides transit passes to students at participating schools. The Field Trip Program provides passes for students at non-GoPass schools, students who haven’t activated their GoPass, and all teachers and chaperones (since GoPass only covers students). Submit your field trip request first, and Metro staff will help determine pass needs based on your school’s GoPass participation.
Approved locations are required for the Field Trip Program. GoPass students may still travel to other destinations using their GoPass cards, but those trips cannot be processed through the Field Trip Program. The list of approved destinations is reassessed annually.
All Metro buses and rail stations are ADA accessible. Please note any specific accessibility needs in the request form, and Metro staff will ensure appropriate accommodations.

All unused fare media must be returned within 7 business days of your scheduled trip (postmarks accepted).
