Each night, ramps within the freeway closures limits may begin to close as early as 7pm. Freeway lanes will begin to close as early as 10pm, leading up to the full directional freeway closure between midnight and 5am. In addition, the southbound Skirball off-ramp is scheduled to close at 7pm on the night of Friday, December 09, 2011, and reopen on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 6am.

The contractor is currently preparing to temporarily widen the freeway near Mulholland Bridge to support the development of a construction work zone at the center of the freeway. A temporary bridge falsework structure will be erected to support the reconstruction of Mulholland Bridge. The temporary widening of both directions of the freeway near the Mulholland Bridge will entail roadway repaving work and the re-striping of freeway lanes, requiring full directional freeway closures for four nights. The full directional freeway closure is anticipated to resume Tuesday, November 22, 2011, for one night. The closures will then continue for three more nights the following week.

The contractor will begin relocating a telecommunication line on the property of the General Services Administration (GSA), between Sepulveda and Veteran, starting Tuesday, November 1, 2011, for two months. Work activities will take place during daytime and nighttime hours. Daytime hours from 8am until 5pm and will not require lane reductions. Nighttime activities, from 8pm to 5am, will require lane reductions through the GSA driveway, from Sepulveda to Veteran, for several nights. One lane will remain open for two directions of traffic, with a flagger being used to direct traffic. Some sections of GSA parking will be restricted during this time.

The Contractor has completed demolition activities for the drainage catch basin. They will return to remove the demolished material on Monday, October 31, 2011 from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am. Material removal will take two hours, and will occur at the beginning of the shift. This will be the only activity that will potentially create loud noise. For the rest of the night, and the remaining two weeks of night work, noise will be minimal.

Area: Sunset Bl Bridge at the I-405 freeway
The contractor will begin demolition and reconstruction of the northern half of the Sunset Bl Bridge. The demolition will take place during 12 nights, followed by a 12-month reconstruction period. Work is anticipated to start on Monday, October 31, 2011, for 12 consecutive nights, between the hours of 9pm to 6am, with bridge demolition occurring between 11pm and 5am. Demolition of columns and bents is anticipated to take place on Wednesday, November 9 through Friday, November 11, 2011. Abutment demolition will follow at a later time.

The intersection and utilities have been raised to meet the new height of the reconstructed Sunset Bl Bridge, with only above-surface work remaining for completion. This progress in the schedule will allow for the opening of the southbound I-405 Sunset off-ramp from 6am to 10am.

The contractor recently placed K-rail barriers on the westbound I-10 connector ramp to northbound I-405. K-rail is required to protect construction activities that will take place over the next six to eight months to widen the northbound I-405. The westbound I-10 to northbound I-405 connector ramp must be realigned to meet the new widened northbound I-405. Construction activities will take place intermittently at night, from 9pm to 6 am.

Area: Relocation of overhead utility lines underground
Existing overhead utility lines will be relocated underground along Sepulveda Bl, between Mountaingate Dr and the area located approximately 500 feet north of Skirball Center Dr. This work is necessary to support upcoming work involving the relocated southbound Skirball ramps and the widening of Sepulveda Bl. Work is anticipated to begin Wednesday, July 6, 2011, and last approximately 11 months. Work crews will work in various sections at a time within the construction work zone area, which is approximately 4,000 feet long along Sepulveda Bl. This activity will require traffic along Sepulveda Bl to be reduced to one lane in each direction during working hours.

The contractor will start the excavation of the access road required to build retaining wall 1827 at the southbound I-405 Getty Center Dr on-ramp. This activity requires the continuous closure of the Getty Center Dr ramp 20 hours a day for seven months. The ramp will be open Monday through Friday from 6am to 10am. The ramp will be closed Monday through Friday from 10am to 6am. The ramp will be closed 24 hours a day on weekends and on holidays.

Area: Work will be conducted within the Caltrans right of way between Sepulveda Bl and the I-405 freeway just north and south of Mountaingate Dr.
The contractor will begin to construct the relocated southbound Skirball on-ramp Wednesday, March 9, 2011, weather permitting. This operation will be conducted within Caltrans right-of-way in the area between Sepulveda Bl and I-405 freeway. Ramp construction will begin with the construction of two retaining walls that will separate Sepulveda Bl and the southbound I-405 freeway. These newly constructed retaining walls for the southbound Skirball ramps will range within approximately 2,000 feet north to 1,000 feet south of Mountaingate Dr. Construction will occur during the daytime and nighttime hours and will last approximately eight months.
