Metro is working to make travel throughout Los Angeles County easier, safer, and more accessible through the Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods (RCN) Initiative. While these improvements will help support travel during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, they are ultimately designed to deliver long-term benefits and create a lasting transportation legacy that will serve Los Angeles County communities for generations to come. 

As part of this effort, Metro is enhancing key transit access points to improve connectivity, strengthen first- and last-mile travel options, and create a safer, more accessible experience for people of all ages and abilities. 

The RCN Initiative includes:

    • Bus Corridor Enhancements 
    • First- and Last-Mile improvements 
    • Mobility Hubs 

Status Update

RCN Community Update Meeting

Metro is hosting a virtual community meeting on Monday, August 31, 2026 to provide an update on project design for RCN sites in the Southeast LA County (Norwalk, Bell Gardens, Bell, Huntington Park, Downey, Carson and the unincorporated community of Walnut Park). Join us to learn more about the proposed improvements, ask questions and share your feedback. Your feedback will help shape transportation improvements that reflect community needs and priorities for years to come.

When will construction begin?

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027, with improvements planned for completion before the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
