What is LIFE?

Metro’s Rider Relief Program is now the LIFE (Low-Income Fare is Easy) program. Qualifying riders can save even more on Metro 7-Day, 30-Day or toward fare on participating transit operators with LIFE coupons.

* LIFE coupons can be applied toward the purchase of an EZ Transit Pass.

Which transit agencies accept LIFE coupons?

The following transit operators accept LIFE coupons toward fare on their respective systems:

  • Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA)
  • Culver City Bus
  • Foothill Transit
  • LADOT Transit
  • Long Beach Transit
  • Metro
  • Montebello Bus Lines
  • Norwalk Transit System
  • Santa Clarita Transit
  • Santa Monica Big Blue Bus
  • Torrance Transit

What are the eligibility guidelines?

Adult riders, Senior/Disabled, K-12 grade students and full time College/Vocational students are eligible if their incomes are:

Household size Annual income
1 $33,950 or less
2 $38,800 or less
3 $43,650 or less
4 $48,450 or less
5 $52,350 or less
6 $56,250 or less

Children over 5 years old whose parents qualify are automatically also eligible to receive LIFE coupons.

Residents of cities/county areas and students of schools that already receive transit subsidies will not be eligible to receive LIFE coupons. Please make sure that you are not receiving any other transit discounts with your city, county or school.

2. Apply

The administrator in your area will refer you to your local agency to submit your application.
Visit the agency in person to complete the application and provide a proof of income, a valid California ID and a TAP card to receive your coupon booklet.

3. Redeem

Use your coupon towards the purchase of a Metro 7-Day or 30-Day Pass, or towards fare on one of the participating transit agencies. Call 866.TAPTOGO or visit to find a vendor that redeems LIFE coupons.

On-site qualification approvals will be made at our enrollment events with a presentation of the following:

  • Valid TAP card
  • Government-issued ID
  • Proof of income (check stub, Medi-Cal, tax return or other public benefits)
