Metro and Caltrans are planning improvements to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and support alternatives to driving. Options being studied include ExpressLanes, HOV lanes, and upgrades for biking, walking, and transit. A Draft Environmental Document will be shared for public review and comment in a future phase.

Status Update

Metro and Caltrans are evaluating four alternatives, each including transit, active transportation, and traffic management elements. A Draft Environmental Document is under development and will include feedback from community outreach.

The I-605 carries over 300,000 vehicles daily and has high congestion and collision rates. Improvements will enhance safety and mobility.

What alternatives are being studied?

Options include: No Build, ExpressLanes, added HOV lanes, and multimodal upgrades.

Will residents be displaced?

No full residential acquisitions are planned. Designs remain within existing right-of-way where possible.

How do ExpressLanes work?

Tolls adjust dynamically to keep traffic flowing reliably, even during peak hours.

How is revenue used?

Toll revenue funds transit service, maintenance, and local mobility projects.

Will noise barriers be rebuilt?

Some soundwalls may be rebuilt or modified to meet current standards.

What is a temporary construction easement?

A TCE allows short-term access to property during construction, with notice and compensation provided.
