If you have received a Transit Violation that starts with the letter “T”, you may be able to reduce the amount of the penalty by taking Metro Transit School / Escuela de Transito .

To obtain your penalty reduction please follow these steps:

  • Watch the Metro Transit School Tutorial and complete the 3-part quiz (this should take about 20 to 30 minutes)
  • Have your Transit Violation with you so you can input the number (look in the top right corner)
  • Once you have received your Certificate of Completion, you are eligible for a $15 penalty reduction to apply to your ticket. Please call 213.92.COURT (213.922.6878) for further instructions.

Eligibility: A person may apply his or her Certificate of Completion to reduce a Transit Violation penalty only once in a 12-month period. To be eligible for a penalty reduction the Transit School Tutorial must be completed before any second level administrative hearing is conducted.

If your violation does not begin with a “T” or if you wish to learn more about Metro’s rules and safety watch the Metro Transit School Tutorial Video / Escuela de transito de Metro .

Payment Plan for TRANSIT Violations

If you have received a Transit Violation that starts with the letter "T", you may be able to qualify for a payment plan if you are experiencing financial difficulty.

To qualify for a payment plan, please follow these steps:

The payment plan allows unpaid transit fines and fees to be paid off in monthly installments. The first installment is 30% of the total amount. The second installment is 35% of the total amount after 30 days. The last installment is 35% of the total amount after 60 days.

There is no prepayment penalty for paying off the balance prior to the payment period expiring. Late fees and penalty assessments will be waived upon enrollment; however, such late fees and penalties may be reinstated if the payment plan is defaulted.

Payment Plan for PARKING Violations

If you have received a Parking Violation that starts with the letter “P”, you may be able to qualify for a payment plan if you are experiencing financial difficulty.

To qualify for a payment plan, please follow these steps:

  • Complete a Declaration of Inability to Pay Waiver
  • Submit waiver to Transit Court within sixty (60) calendar days of the issuance of the Parking Violation, or ten (10) days after the administrative hearing determination, whichever is later.

Failure to timely enroll in the payment plan within the specified time period may deem you ineligible for the payment plan.

The payment plan allows unpaid parking fines and fees to be paid off in monthly thirty-day installments of twenty-five dollars ($25) per month with payment completion within 18 months. There is no prepayment penalty for paying off the balance prior to the payment period expiring. Late fees and penalty assessments will be waived upon enrollment; however, such late fees and penalties may be reinstated if the payment plan is defaulted.

Community Service for TRANSIT and PARKING Violations

You may be able to qualify for community service in lieu of paying your fine.

To qualify for community service, please follow these steps:

Community service is administered through an outside agency with locations throughout Los Angeles County.  You will be responsible for enrollment and charged a registration fee.  The registration fee is $35 for up to 20 hours of community service assigned.  The fee covers office operations, staffing, and insurance to the outside agency.  It is not set by Metro.

Violations $75 and under will be assigned 5 hours of community service.  The 5 hours does not include enrollment and travel times. Community Service may only be completed once in any 12 month period.

Late fees and penalty assessments will be waived upon enrollment; however, such late fees and penalties may be reinstated if the community service deadline is defaulted.
