Metro App Terms of Service

Introduction

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“LA Metro” “Metro” “us” “we” “our”) offers the LA Metro Mobile Application and related services (“LA Metro App”) to you conditioned on your acceptance without modification of the Terms.

By registering, accessing or otherwise using LA Metro App, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”), which is a legal contract between you and LA Metro, on behalf of yourself or the person or entity you represent. If you do not agree to the terms, please stop using LA Metro App immediately.

Please Note: LA Metro App makes use of detailed location and route information, including in the form of GPS signals and other information sent by the mobile device on which LA Metro App is activated. Certain features of LA Metro App cannot be provided without this technology. LA Metro App uses location services for multiple reasons – trip planning, letting users know when to get off a bus/train, show nearby stops and stations, etc. Users are prompted to allow the app to use their location and can choose to deny this request.

LA Metro collaborates with third parties to provide additional transit and transit related services. LA Metro provides information on third party transit services providers via LA Metro App. Such third party providers are independent from LA Metro App and LA Metro is in no way responsible for, liable for, nor makes any representations on behalf of, such third party providers. You further acknowledge and agree that LA Metro shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss whatsoever caused, or alleged to be caused, by or in connection with the use of or reliance on any goods, services, content, products or other materials available on or through any third party provider.

LA Metro App may send Push notifications and users can opt out of those in the settings.

Modification of These Terms

We reserve the right in our sole discretion to change, modify, add, or remove the terms, conditions, and notices under which LA Metro App is offered. It is your responsibility to check LA Metro App periodically for any changes we may make to these Terms. Your continued use of LA Metro App following the effective date of changes to these Terms or other policies means you accept and consent to the changes. 

No Unlawful or Prohibited Use

As a condition of using LA Metro App, you warrant that you will not use LA Metro App for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms and you will comply with all applicable laws, including but not limited to, privacy laws, intellectual property laws, export control laws, regulatory requirements, etc.

You agree not to:

• Use any robot, spider, other automatic device, or manual process to monitor, modify, copy, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble LA Metro App without our prior express written consent.
• Use any device, software or routine to interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of LA Metro App or any transaction being conducted through LA Metro App.
• Mirror, copy, reproduce, alter, modify, create derivative works, or publicly display any content or information (except for any information in which you have an ownership interest) from LA Metro App without our prior express written consent or the appropriate third party.
• Interfere with or violate any other User or other third party’s, use, enjoyment, privacy or other rights including intellectual property rights.
• Harvest or collect personally identifiable information about any Users of LA Metro App without their express consent.
• Frame, scrape, data-mine, extract, or collect the content of LA Metro App in any form or manner including using any robot, spider, site search or retrieval application, or other manual or automatic device or process to retrieve, index, or data-mine.
• Transmit or otherwise make available in connection with LA Metro App any virus, worm, Trojan Horse, time bomb, web bug, spyware, or any other computer code, file, or program that may or is intended to damage or hijack the operation of any hardware, software, or telecommunications equipment, or any other actually or potentially harmful, disruptive, or invasive code or component.
• Interfere with or disrupt the operation of LA Metro App, or the servers or networks that host LA Metro App, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies, or regulations of such servers or networks.
• Sell, license, or exploit for any commercial purposes any use of or access to LA Metro App.
• Impersonate any person or entity or provide false or misleading personal information.
• Use LA Metro App for non-personal or commercial purposes without LA Metro’s express prior written consent.

Failure to comply with the provisions set forth above may result, at LA Metro’s sole discretion, in the termination or suspension of your access to LA Metro App and may also expose you to civil and/or criminal liability.

Information Provided to LA Metro

By posting, uploading, inputting, providing or submitting information or data, directly or indirectly, Users grant LA Metro and third party service providers permission to use such information and data in connection with the operation of LA Metro App and its businesses including, without limitation, the rights to: copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, reproduce, edit, translate and reformat such information and data, including any photos, images or pictures of any kind; and to publish the applicable User’s name in connection therewith, except to the extent prohibited by law. LA Metro is under no obligation to post or use, and Users will not be compensated in any way for any of the information or data provided as described above. LA Metro may, in its sole discretion, remove any such information or data at any time, for any reason, without notice to Users. All personal information provided to LA Metro App will be handled in accordance with LA Metro App’s online Privacy Policy at LA Metro Privacy Policy.

Feedback

In the event that User provides LA Metro with any suggestions, comments or other feedback relating to LA Metro App or the Services (collectively, “Feedback”), such Feedback is deemed at the incipiency the sole and exclusive property of LA Metro and User hereby irrevocably assigns to LA Metro all of its rights, title and interest in and to all Feedback, if any, and waives any moral rights to it (or anyone on its behalf) may have in such Feedback. Without derogating from the foregoing, User hereby represents and warrants that it shall not provide any Feedback which is subject to any third party rights or any limitations, and, without derogating from the foregoing, shall promptly inform LA Metro as soon as it becomes aware of any third party right or limitation which may apply to Feedback already provided.

Links to Third Party Sites or Services

LA Metro App may contain links to other web sites or services (collectively, “Third Party Sites and Services”). Third Party Sites and Services are not under our control, and we are not responsible for the availability or content of any Third Party Sites and Services, including without limitation any link contained in Third Party Sites and Services, or any changes or updates to Third Party Sites and Services.

We are not responsible for webcasting, or any other form of transmission received from any Third Party Sites and Services. We are providing these links to you only as a convenience, and the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by us of the site or any association with its operators. We reserve the right to disable links from any third-party sites to LA Metro App.

Please exercise discretion while browsing the Internet and using LA Metro App. You should be aware that when using LA Metro App, you could be directed to other sites that are beyond our control. There are links to other sites from LA Metro App pages that take you outside of LA Metro App. This includes links from sponsors and content partners that may use our logo(s) as part of a co-branding agreement. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data, solicit personal information, or contain information that you may find inappropriate or offensive.

We do not endorse any of the information, services, or products, nor have we taken any steps to confirm the accuracy or reliability of, any of the information contained in such Third Party Sites and Services. We do not make any representations or warranties as to the security of any information (including, without limitation, credit card and other personal information) you might be requested to give any third party, and you hereby irrevocably waive any claim against with respect to such Third Party Sites and Services. We strongly encourage you to make whatever investigation you feel necessary or appropriate before proceeding with any online or offline transaction with any of these third parties.

We provide links to third parties in a side menu. Third party links are websites or platforms that provide you with additional functionality, tools, or services.

You acknowledge and agree we are not responsible for the availability of such third party links and do not endorse and are not responsible or liable for any content, advertising, goods, services or other materials on, available through, or provided by such third party links.

We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy or other practices of such third parties and cannot guarantee the security of any of your personal information that you provide or is collected by third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies and terms and conditions of those third parties.

Third Party Components

LA Metro App may use or include third party software, files and components that are subject to open source and third party license terms (“Third Party Components”). You acknowledge that LA Metro is not the author, owner or licensor of any Third Party Components, and that LA Metro makes no warranties or representations, express or implied, as to the quality, capabilities, operations, performance or suitability of Third Party Components. Under no circumstances shall LA Metro App or any portion thereof (except for the Third Party Components contained therein) be deemed to be “open source” or “publicly available” software.

Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The material on LA Metro App is provided for general information only and should not be relied upon or used as the sole basis for making significant decisions without consulting primary or more accurate, more complete, or timelier sources of information. Any reliance on the information and material on LA Metro App is at your own risk.

The information, software, and services included in or available through the LA Metro App may include inaccuracies or typographical errors.

LA Metro makes no representations about the suitability, reliability, availability, timeliness, and accuracy of the information, software, services and related graphics contained on or available through LA Metro App for any purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, all such information, software, products, services and related graphics are provided “as is” without warranty, representation, or other condition of any kind.

Without limiting the foregoing, LA Metro and/or its suppliers hereby disclaim all warranties and conditions with regard to this information, software, services and related graphics, including all implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall LA Metro be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special, consequential damages or any damages whatsoever including, without limitation, damages for errors, omissions, interruptions, defects, delays, computer viruses, loss of use, data or profits, unauthorized access to and alteration of your transmissions and data, and other tangible and intangible losses, arising out of or in any way connected with the use or performance of LA Metro App, with the delay or inability to use LA Metro App, the provision of or failure to provide LA Metro App, or from any actions we take or fail to take as a result of email messages you send US, or for any information, software, services and related graphics obtained through LA Metro App, or otherwise arising out of the use of LA Metro App, whether based on contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, even if LA Metro has been advised of the possibility of damages. Because some states/jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, the above limitation may not apply to you. If you are dissatisfied with any portion of the app, or with any of these terms of use, your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using LA Metro App.

You also agree that LA Metro is not responsible or liable in any way for injury, loss or damage to your computer or device related to or resulting from use of LA Metro App or any sites, services or materials linked or related thereto or therefrom and also not responsible or liable in any way for any injury, loss, claim or damage relating to or resulting from any part of LA Metro App operating or not operating on computers, devices or networks used by you or communicating with such computers or networks.

Electronic Communications Privacy Act Notice (18 U.S.C. 2701-2711)

We make no guaranty of confidentiality or privacy of any communication or information transmitted on LA Metro App or any web site linked to LA Metro App. We will not be liable for the privacy of the information, e-mail addresses, registration and identification information, disk space, communications, confidential or trade-secret information, or any other content transmitted over networks accessed by LA Metro App, or otherwise connected with your use of LA Metro App.

Availability of Products and Services

The products and/or services described in and available through LA Metro App may not be available in your country. We make no representation that the services or products offered in LA Metro App are appropriate or available for use in any particular location.

Those who choose to access LA Metro App do so on their own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws, if and to the extent local laws are applicable. If use of LA Metro App and/or viewing or use of any material or content therein or services offered thereby violates or infringes any applicable law in your jurisdiction(s), you are not authorized to view or use LA Metro App and must exit immediately.

Your viewing and/or use of LA Metro App constitutes your representation that you are unconditionally and without limitation permitted to view and use LA Metro App and LA Metro and its employees, contractors, agents, licensors and suppliers (collectively, the “Indemnified Parties”) may rely upon such representation.

LA Metro App is operated from the United States, and it is possible that some software from LA Metro App or the products and services offered on LA Metro App may be subject to United States export controls. Products and services described on the LA Metro App and software downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported from LA Metro App are not intended for sale, download or export (i) into (or to a national or resident of any country that is subject to a U.S. or U.N. embargo or sanction or to anyone on the US Treasury Department’s list of Specially Designated Nationals or anyone subject to the same or similar restrictions even if not listed or the US Commerce Department’s Table of Deny Orders. Downloading or using the software, products or services, you represent and warrant that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any such country or on any of the above restricted lists or subject to such restrictions.

Copyright and Trademark Notices

The trademarks, logos, and service marks (collectively the “Trademarks”) displayed on LA Metro App are registered and unregistered Trademarks of the administrator(s) of LA Metro App and others. Nothing contained on LA Metro App should be construed as granting, by implication, estoppel, or otherwise, any license or right to use any Trademark displayed on LA Metro App without our written permission or the permission of such third party that may own the Trademarks displayed on LA Metro App. All contents of LA Metro App are Copyright 2026. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless LA Metro and its employees, contractors, agents, licensors and suppliers (collectively, the “Indemnified Parties”), from and against any and all liability, including but not limited to allegations, demands, claims, liabilities, damages, fines, losses, expenses, penalties or costs of whatsoever nature, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and court costs, and whether by reason of death of or injury to any person or loss of or damage to any property or otherwise (“Claims”) arising or resulting in any way from any violation of these Terms, your use or activity on LA Metro App, the services or products provided to you by of the LA Metro through the LA Metro App or any related act or failure to act by you and whether or not occasioned or contributed to by the negligence of LA Metro or any agent or employee of the Indemnified Parties or any of them (except as and to the extent prohibited by applicable law), including, without limitation, any Claims related to infringement by you of the intellectual property rights of any person, including without limitation, copyright, patent, trade secret, trade mark, artist rights, droit moral, privacy, publicity or rights under other intellectual property laws.

Without limiting the foregoing, if you cause a technical disruption of the App or the systems transmitting the App to you or others, you agree to be responsible for any and all losses, liabilities, expenses, damages and costs, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and court costs, arising or resulting from that disruption. In the event that any Claim is made or any action or proceeding is brought against the Indemnified Parties, or any of them, arising out of or connected with the Terms, any such Indemnified Party may, by reasonable notice to you, require you, at your expense, to resist such Claim or take over the defense of any such action or proceeding and employ counsel for such purpose, such counsel to be subject to the prior written approval of such Indemnified Party, which approval shall be deemed to have been given hereby in the case of counsel acting for your insurance underwriters engaged in such resistance or defense. You shall cooperate with us in the defense of any Claim. We reserve the right, at our own expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you.

Availability

LA Metro App availability and functionality depends on various factors, such as communication networks software, hardware, and LA Metro App’s service providers and contractors. LA Metro does not warrant or guarantee that LA Metro App will operate and/or be available at all times without disruption or interruption, or that it will be immune from unauthorized access error-free.

If for any reason any portion of LA Metro App is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond our reasonable control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of LA Metro App, we reserve the right (but not the obligation) in our sole and absolute discretion, to prohibit you and any other individual or entity from using LA Metro App, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend LA Metro App or any portion thereof and void such information. LA Metro reserves the right to modify, correct, amend, enhance, improve, make any other changes to, or discontinue, temporarily or permanently LA Metro App (or any part thereof, including but not limited to the Content) without notice, at any time and at its sole discretion. In addition, you hereby acknowledge that the Content provided under LA Metro App may be changed, extended in terms of content and form or removed at any time without any notice to you. You agree that LA Metro shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of LA Metro App.

Termination/Access Restriction

We reserve the right, in our sole and absolutely discretion, to terminate your access to LA Metro App or any portion thereof at any time, for any reason, without notice to you. This includes but is not limited to instances where you may show disregard for the Terms or act in an unacceptable manner, with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other person, or in any other disruptive manner. We also reserve the right to refuse service and remove or edit content in our sole and absolute discretion.

Governing Law

To the maximum extent permitted by law, these Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and you hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of courts in California in all disputes arising out of or relating to the use of LA Metro App. You also agree that any action at law or in equity arising out of or relating to the Terms shall be filed only in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, if there is no federal jurisdiction over the action, in the courts of the State of California located in Los Angeles County, California. You hereby consent and submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts for the purposes of litigating any such action.

Use of LA Metro App is unauthorized in any jurisdiction that does not give effect to all provisions of these terms and conditions, including without limitation this paragraph.

General Terms

The following general terms apply to you and your use of LA Metro App:

• You agree that no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship exists between you and us as a result of these Terms or use of LA Metro App.
• Our performance of these Terms is subject to existing laws and legal process, and nothing contained in these Terms is in derogation of our right to comply with governmental, court and law enforcement requests or requirements relating to your use of LA Metro App or information provided to or gathered by us with respect to such use.
• If any part of these Terms is determined to be invalid or unenforceable pursuant to applicable law including, but not limited to, the warranty disclaimers and liability limitations set forth above, then the invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remainder of these Terms shall continue in effect.
• Unless otherwise specified herein or agreed to by the user, these Terms constitute the entire agreement between the user and LA Metro with respect to LA Metro App and it supersedes all prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals, whether electronic, oral or written, between the user and LA Metro with respect to LA Metro App.
• A printed version of these Terms and of any notice given in electronic form shall be admissible in judicial or administrative proceedings based upon or relating to these Terms to the same extent and subject to the same conditions as other business documents and records originally generated and maintained in printed form.
