Adjustments Effective June 7 Support On-Time Performance; NextGen Bus Plan Goals
In response to customer and staff feedback, as well as transit performance data, Metro will implement service adjustments for bus and rail effective Sunday, June 7. These biannual changes aim to enhance schedule reliability, align capacity with ridership demand and support Metro’s NextGen Bus Plan.

The primary focus of the June 2026 program is improving on-time performance by adjusting schedules to reflect real-world street conditions. Metro will revise timetables for 42 weekday routes, 37 Saturday routes and 22 Sunday routes, reducing passenger wait times and ensuring more reliable transfers.
Bus Service Level Adjustments (Additions & Reductions)
To improve efficiency, Metro will modify service on select bus lines where ridership does not match capacity. Hours saved from these minor service reductions will be reinvested into trip additions and extended service that will alleviate crowding and enhance reliability.
Service Additions
To mitigate peak crowding on high-demand routes, additional service has been introduced. Key enhancements include:
South Los Angeles/Downtown LA
- Line 48 (Weekday): Three total trips added, featuring two southbound morning peak trips between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m., and one northbound trip departing San Pedro Street/Manchester Avenue at 8:45 a.m.
San Fernando Valley (North)
- Line 166 (Weekday): One eastbound trip added during the 2 p.m. block.
San Fernando Valley (West)
- Line 244 (Weekday): One specialized morning trip was added, operating on school days only, to get a high number of students safely to Chatsworth High School.
San Gabriel Valley / Downtown LA
- Line 489 (Weekday): One eastbound evening commuter trip added during the 6 p.m. period.
South Bay / Gateway Cities / Downtown LA
- J Line (910) (Saturday & Sunday): One weekend trip added at 11:40 a.m. to meet midday regional demand.
Service Reductions
A limited number of low-ridership routes are being eliminated on select lines, including:
Westside / Downtown LA
- Line 2 (Weekday): Reduction of one eastbound trip in the 5 a.m. hour.
Century City / Central LA / Downtown LA
- Line 28 (Weekday): Reduction of one eastbound trip in the 9 a.m. hour and one westbound trip in the 6 p.m. hour.
Mid-City / Westlake / South Los Angeles
- Line 51 (Weekday): Peak frequencies adjusted from 5-minute headways to a 5.5- to 7.5-minute range during morning and afternoon peak windows to reflect standard service tiers defined in the NextGen Bus Plan.
Central LA / South Los Angeles
- Line 204 (Weekday & Saturday): Reduction of two weekday trips (6 p.m. northbound and 7 p.m. southbound) and one Saturday trip (6 p.m. northbound).
Bus Route Changes & Stop Relocations
San Fernando Valley (West)
- Line 162 (North Hollywood – Woodland Hills): In anticipation of a new local fast-food restaurant’s traffic, currently under construction at Ventura Boulevard and Rigoletto Street, Metro will implement a modified westbound terminal loop. As a result, the southbound stop at Fallbrook Avenue and Ventura Boulevard will be permanently relocated to Ventura Boulevard eastbound at Fallbrook Avenue. Buses will complete their modified loop via Fallbrook Avenue, Burbank Boulevard, left on Ventura Boulevard, right on Ponce Avenue, right on Del Valle Street and right on Fallbrook Avenue back to the terminal stop.
Rail System Infrastructure & Performance Updates
Metro is adjusting rail service schedules across the system to support reliability and operational maintenance. These changes do not impact service frequencies or operating hours. Changes include:
Long Beach to Downtown LA/Pasadena/Azusa
- A Line: Timetables are being recalibrated to maximize on-time reliability and preserve adequate operational buffers for mid-route vehicle cleaning and operator shift exchanges at Union Station.
Westside/Central LA/San Fernando Valley/Downtown LA
- B and D Lines: minor late-night modifications for weekday and weekend departures after 9 p.m. feature slight adjustments for better on-time reliability, with final trains from the new La Cienega (D Line) terminus and Union Station (B and D Lines) departing exactly one minute later.
South Bay / Southeast LA / LAX Regional
- C Line: To improve direct regional access to Los Angeles International Airport, the final two westbound C Line trips of the night will extend past their former terminus at Aviation/Century Station to serve the new LAX/Metro Transit Center Station on weekdays and weekends alike.
Crenshaw District / Inglewood / Westchester
- K Line: Minor adjustments are being applied to weekday schedules to strengthen overall on-time reliability.
