The LA General Medical Center (LAGMC) Metrolink Commuter Rail Station is a proposed opportunity to add a new Metrolink San Bernardino Line station adjacent to the existing Los Angeles County General Medical Center Bus Station on the El Monte Busway along the I-10 freeway. This station will provide essential workers, patients, and their families with direct commuter rail access to the largest healthcare provider in Los Angeles County and enhance regional mobility to eastside communities including Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, and East Los Angeles. The project is currently advancing through environmental review and preliminary design stages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Overview of the Project?
Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around, which includes projects to improve transit access across LA County.

The LAGMC Metrolink Commuter Rail Station Project will improve regional rail access along the Metrolink San Bernardino Line by adding a new station near one of the largest public hospitals in the United States. The LAGMC Metrolink Commuter Rail Station will be located adjacent to the LAGMC Bus Station on the El Monte Busway along the I-10 freeway, with direct access to Pomeroy Avenue and the surrounding neighborhood. The station area is home to a high concentration of essential workers, patients, and local businesses, and currently faces significant traffic congestion and limited transit access. A Feasibility Study completed in July 2022 evaluated the potential for the new station to improve mobility, reduce parking demand, and support the transformation of the medical center area into a thriving health innovation district. The station would enhance regional rail connections to Downtown Los Angeles and beyond.
What is the Proposed Project?
Metro is advancing plans to construct a new center platform station along the existing Metrolink San Bernardino Line. The project includes a grade-separated pedestrian bridge with stairs and an elevator, along with one at-grade crossing to ensure safe and convenient passenger access to the platform.

The project aims to improve transit access for essential workers and daily visitors to the LAGMC campus, enhance mobility across Los Angeles County, and reduce the strain on local roads and parking infrastructure, and provide air quality benefits. Metro is currently initiating environmental studies ahead of final design and construction, with early design work expected to reach 30% completion by early 2026.
How is the project funded?

This current phase of the project for the environmental studies and preliminary engineering design is funded with LA Metro local Measure R sales tax dollars.

What are the next steps?

Metro will continue advancing the LAGMC Metrolink Commuter Rail Station Project through the 30% design process. Metro is committed to equity, transparency and maximizing public participation. Metro will work closely with local stakeholders to gather input and ensure the Project considers community needs as it completes environmental studies and preliminary design.
