This transit project will use the same rail technology as Metro’s A, C, E and L Lines adding 14 new stations between the G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station and the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station. This system for the Valley means better transit with improved quality and service along Van Nuys Bl.
Project at a Glance:
Metro has completed most of the advanced design for East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project and released the Progressive Design Build (PDB) procurement documents in summer 2022. Metro anticipates starting pre-construction advance utility relocation late 2022 followed by major construction.
The PDB delivery method was approved by the Metro Board in October 2021. The PDB delivery method brings the contractor and their designer into the project early, to take the design from approximately 30 to 60% to approximately 85% completed, while collaborating with Metro and third parties, and then prices the construction costs.
Metro’s consultant Gannett Fleming, Inc. continues performing field investigation work ahead of the construction of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project. This work includes potholing and trenching along Van Nuys Blvd from Oxnard St to San Fernando Rd during the weekdays, weeknights, and weekends. This work will require lane reductions and occasional short-term street closures. The completion of this work is anticipated in late 2022.
Real estate activities are anticipated to begin Fall 2022/Winter 2023 and are expected to run through 2027.
