We’re committed to providing you with a great experience on Metro. That means a system that’s clean and where we treat every rider with care, so everyone feels safer as they travel. Here’s what we’re doing.
You said you didn’t feel safe on Metro. So, we’re investing in the people, infrastructure and technology necessary to keep our riders and our employees safe.
Security staff and law enforcement
Our Transit Security Officers make sure everyone’s following the Metro rules – paying fares among them. And law enforcement is there to prevent or address any crimes committed on our system. To be clear: violence is not tolerated on Metro.
More lighting and safety equipment
We’re installing better lighting, more security cameras and Blue Light Call Boxes. And our CCTV team is watching 24/7 to dispatch help wherever it’s needed.

You said you didn’t feel like we put our riders first. So we’re adding more help across the system — from getting you around LA safely to helping our riders in need.
Coming soon: Metro Ambassador team
This fall, you’ll see our new team of Metro Ambassadors, who will be present to help you navigate the system and to report any issues they see that we need to address.
Support and empathy
We’re deploying more outreach workers to connect the unhoused to shelter and services, and we’re doubling our crisis intervention teams who will be available to help those who need it.

You said our system isn’t clean. Here’s what we’re doing to make our system cleaner – and to keep it that way. Because a clean place is a safe place.
More cleaning staff during the day
We’re making a significant investment in making our vehicles and stations look and feel noticeably cleaner. This includes more staff and more frequent cleaning to keep ramping up cleanliness for the entire system.
New cleaning schedules
We’re testing new midday cleaning schedules for trains at end-of-line locations and for buses at high-volume locations.
Help us keep our system clean
We can’t do this without you. So please take your trash with you when you get to your destination. And let us know if you see something we need to fix or clean so we can send someone to take care of it.
