How to protect your balance

If you load a pass or Stored Value on your card, TAP gives you the option of signing up for free balance protection. In the event your card is lost or stolen, you can report it and the unused balance will be returned to you. Here’s how:

  1. Register your card online at, or call 1.866.TAPTOGO. You only have to register once per card; your balance will be automatically protected thereafter.
  2. If your card is lost or stolen, call 1.866.TAPTOGO to report it.
  3. Your original card will be rendered invalid and a new card with the remaining balance will be sent to you. (Please note there is a $5 fee for replacing your card and reinstating your balance.)

If you are a Senior, Person with disabilities, or a Student rider, you are automatically enrolled in the TAP Balance Protection Program when you apply for your TAP card.
