City of Beverly Hills - Wilshire/La Cienega: February thru March Look-Ahead

The Purple Line Extension, Section 1 construction is well underway at the future La Cienega Station. Since January 2017, the design-build contractor has removed a median at Wilshire/ San Vicente and installed concrete barriers (k-rail) on the south side of Wilshire Blvd. to support pre-piling activities. This monthly notification is an outline of construction activities anticipated to begin at the end of February thru March, 2017, pending City of Beverly Hills approval.  Additional notices detailing these activities will be sent by email thru the Purple Line Extension, Section 1 database.  To receive future notices by email, please sign up at purplelineext@metro.net

Summary

Pre-Piling Work, Potholing Across Gale Dr. and Hamilton Dr.  

  • Gale Dr. and Hamilton Dr. closed intermittently at Wilshire Blvd. on the south side, partial and full closures on weekdays from 7am-4pm.
  • Sidewalk closed intermittently on the south side of Wilshire Blvd. between Gale Dr. and Hamilton Dr. on weekdays from 7am-4pm and 8pm-7am; and weekends from 7am-4pm and 6pm-8am. These closures will be coordinated with events at The Saban Theatre.
  • Driveway access for US Renal Care maintained at Wilshire when possible, or flagger will assist traffic at driveway on Gale Dr. 

Tree Removal and Work Zone Banner Installation 

  • Westbound Wilshire Blvd. reduced to one lane between San Vicente Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd. on weekdays from 9pm-6am, and weekends from 8pm-6am.
  • Intermittent sidewalk closures on the north side of Wilshire Blvd. between San Vicente Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd. on weekdays from 7am-4pm and 8pm-7am; and weekends from 6pm-8am.
  • Eastbound Wilshire Blvd. reduced to one lane between La Cienega Blvd. and San Vicente Blvd. to support banner installation on weekdays from 9pm-6am; and weekends from 8pm-6am.
  • Sidewalks surrounding staging yards on La Cienega, Wilshire, and Gale to support banner installation on weekdays from 7am-4pm and 8pm-7am; and weekends from 7am-4pm and 6pm-8am.

Instrumentation and Geotechnical Work 

  • Installation of geotechnical instruments on the north side of the Wilshire Blvd. sidewalk between Tower Dr. and Hamilton Dr. on weekdays from 7am-4pm and 8pm-7am; and weekends from 6pm-8am.
  • Installation of instruments on the south side of the Wilshire Blvd. sidewalk between La Cienega Blvd. and Le Doux Rd. and on the east side of Tower Dr. south of Wilshire Blvd. on weekdays from 7am-4pm and 8pm-7am; and weekends 6pm-8am.
  • Installation of geotechnical instruments on La Cienega Blvd. Northbound and southbound La Cienega Blvd. lanes reduced intermittently between Gregory Way and Clifton Way. 

Piling and Support Activities  

  • Piling and support activities behind the closure on the south side of Wilshire Blvd. on weekdays and weekends from 7am-10pm.
  • Mobilization of drill rigs, generators, trucks on weekdays and weekends from 7am-10pm.
  • Directional closures on eastbound Wilshire Blvd. and northbound La Cienega Blvd. on weekends from 7am-10pm. Closure details and detours published prior to closure.
  • Pile support activities, such as deliveries and utility line installations. Wilshire Blvd. reduced to one lane intermittently between San Vicente Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd on weekdays from 8pm- 7am; and weekends from 6pm-8am.
  • Sidewalk closure on the south side of Wilshire Blvd. between Gale Dr. and Hamilton Dr. on weekdays from 7am-4pm and 8pm-7am; and weekends from 6pm-8am.

Note: Additional construction notices will be published with further details prior to start of major activities.

Metro Alerts 

Train service will be replaced by bus shuttles on two stretches of the Expo Line this month in order for maintenance and repair work to be performed on overhead wires, track and communications equipment. Click for more info.
