Asphalt and Rail Removal on 1st Street Bridge

As part of the Federal government’s Coronavirus Guidance for America, transportation infrastructure is considered an “Essential Critical Infrastructure.” Additionally, transit capital projects are not subject to the State of California’s Stay at Home order, therefore Metro construction projects continue to progress.

Summary

Metro Contractors will micro mill the deck surface of the 1st Street Bridge to remove asphalt and rails from October 3 to October 13. Work will move from west to east.

Vehicle traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction during this work. The eastbound far left lane will be closed until Friday, October 16, 2020. Daily and intermittent westbound lane closures will occur for the next two weeks only if repairs in those lanes are required. If repairs are required, they will be completed at nighttime along the westbound construction area. Construction will pause while L Line (Gold) trains pass by the construction site. A flagger will be used to notify workers of a passing train.

Weekday work will take place from 9am to 3:30pm.

Weekend work is anticipated from Saturday, October 3 through Sunday, October 4. Weekend work occurs from 8am to 10pm. There will be intermittent noise while the work is completed.
