Regional Connector Constructors (RCC) will begin the assembly of the tunnel boring machine before lowering into1st St. and Alameda tunnel shaft.
Work is anticipated to begin on Monday, November 14, 2016 and continue for two months.
The TBM pieces will be transported from the local storage yard to the 1st St. and Alameda yard (Mangrove construction yard) to begin assembly.
The shields, cutter head, and backup gantries will be lowered to the bottom of the TBM shaft and assembled sequentially. Machine assembly will continue until completion and the shaft is ready to launch into the ground.
Activities will include the TBM assembly and lowering into the shaft in preparation of TBM launch to begin tunnel mining activity in early 2017.
What to Expect
No traffic closure is required for this activity.
Large pieces of TBM pieces and equipment will be delivered during the hours of midnight to 6 a.m. on as needed basis during two months duration.
TBM pieces from the Commercial St. yard into Mangrove Yard will be delivered using approved haul route on westbound Temple St., south on Vignes St. into the yard entrance before Alameda St.
