Piling Activities Behind k-rail at 2nd & Broadway

Summary

Regional Connector Constructors (RCC) is continuing to perform utility investigation, drilling for geotechnical instrumentation and start piling behind the current k-rail closure for the future 2nd and Broadway station. The piling activity consists of drilling, setting piles, backfilling and restoring pavement.

Work is anticipated to continue Monday, July 18, 2016 for the next 3 months.

Anticipated work hours are of 7a.m. to 3:30 p.m. behind the k-rail full closure of 2nd & Broadway and no further street closure is required.

Essentials

Work will consist of drilling 3’ – 4’ diameter holes up to 100’ deep, setting steel beams, and backfilling with slurry cement.

Major equipment used will be a large crawler crane, drill rig, and several concrete trucks and long truck and trailers delivering steel beams.

What to Expect

Work will occur behind current k-rail with current traffic closures. Sound barriers and blankets will be in place to mitigate noise.
