Metro’s Rider Relief Program is now the LIFE (Low-Income Fare is Easy) program. Qualifying riders can save even more on Metro 7-Day, 30-Day or toward fare on participating transit operators with LIFE benefits. Starting July 1, 2019, LIFE benefits will no longer be distributed as paper coupons. All benefits will be loaded directly onto your TAP card. For more information click below on the “Changes are Coming” tab.

Changes are coming to LIFE

Starting July 1, 2019, LIFE benefits will no longer be distributed as paper coupons. All benefits will be loaded directly onto your TAP card.

To redeem LIFE subsidies with TAP : Take your registered LIFE TAP card to any TAP-participating vendor and load your fare option.

Fare options : You can choose to purchase or load one of the following options each month.

  • Discount on the purchase of four Metro 7-day passes or participating operator equivalent passes (see below)
  • Discount on the purchase of one discounted Metro 30-day pass or participating operator equivalent pass
  • One discounted EZ Pass (except Norwalk Transit)
  • 20 regional rides (the rides will be loaded on your TAP card with no purchase necessary)

What are the eligibility guidelines?

Adult riders, Senior/Disabled, K-12 grade students and full time College/Vocational students are eligible if their incomes are:

1 $33,950 or less
2 $38,800 or less
3 $43,650 or less
4 $48,450 or less
5 $52,350 or less
6 $56,250 or less

Children over 5 years old whose parents qualify are automatically also eligible to receive LIFE coupons.

Residents of cities/county areas and students of schools that already receive transit subsidies will not be eligible to receive LIFE coupons. Please make sure that you are not receiving any other transit discounts with your city, county or school.

Annual Re-enrollment

You will only have to re-enroll in the LIFE program at an agency once a year. There is no need to visit an agency every six months.

Be sure to bring all of the following required items to your agency:

  • Valid picture ID
  • Proof of income (check stub, Medi-Cal, Lifeline, public benefit, tax return or free-reduced lunch)
  • Valid TAP card
  • Email address (Optional)
