Expo/Crenshaw Station Construction

Crenshaw Blvd closure between Exposition Blvd and Coliseum St September 19-21

Crenshaw Blvd, between Exposition Blvd and Coliseum St, is scheduled to undergo a series of weekend closures to support the construction of the Expo/Crenshaw Station.  This closure is necessary to allow for the installation of piles across the street of Crenshaw Blvd.  The closures are anticipated to occur on the following dates:

  • Sept. 19-21
  • Oct. 24-27

For each weekend closure, Crenshaw Blvd is scheduled to be closed on Friday, at 9 pm, and open on Sunday, at 6 am. Rodeo Rd will remain open during the weekend operation.

The Expo/Crenshaw Station on Crenshaw Blvd (between Exposition and Rodeo Pl) will require approximately four years to construct, beginning May 2014.  The Expo/Crenshaw station will serve as one of three underground stations—among the eight new stations—to be constructed along the length of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project.

Construction of the Expo/Crenshaw station will proceed through a number of stages. After the initial surface work is complete, the bulk of station construction will occur underground. Crenshaw Blvd will be covered with concrete decking to allow traffic to flow during construction of the station.

What to Expect

Access to local area businesses in the vicinity of construction will be maintained.  Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction, but will often be re-routed around the work zone.

Bus stops are being relocated for both directions of travel along Crenshaw Blvd. Metro will post signs at affected stops to advise of alternative boarding locations. For information on bus stop changes, please visit http://www.metro.net/service/advisories/ or by calling 323.GOMETRO.

Crenshaw/Vernon Station Construction

Crenshaw Blvd Closure between Vernon Ave and Stocker St September 19-20, 9pm-1pm

Construction of the Leimert Park, Crenshaw/Vernon underground station will take place September 19-20. Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors will be implementing a traffic reconfiguration on Crenshaw Blvd requiring Crenshaw to be fully, but briefly closed between Vernon Ave and Stocker St.

The Crenshaw Blvd closure between Vernon Ave and Stocker St will begin at 9pm on Friday, September 19 and go through approximately 1pm on Saturday, September 20, 2014. This is necessary in order to implement the new traffic reconfiguration.

This reconfiguration will allow for the establishment of a work zone on the west side of the street in order to install support piles to construct a station box for the Crenshaw/Vernon underground station.  Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction during the four years of construction.

The street will be restriped and K-rail (concrete barriers) with fencing will be placed to separate the work area from the road. The implementation of the new traffic control will require a 16-hour full street closure for each station area.

What to Expect

Access to businesses will be maintained.  However, during certain stages of the work, pedestrian access may be limited. Bus routes in the area will continue to operate, however, bus stops within the immediate work area maybe temporarily relocated.  For information on bus stop changes, please visit http://www.metro.net/service/advisories/ or by calling 323.GOMETRO.

Crenshaw/MLK Station Construction

Crenshaw Blvd closure between 39th and Stocker St September 20-21, 9pm-1pm

Construction for the Crenshaw/MLK underground station is anticipated to move into another phase, where the construction work zone will be relocated to the west side of the street to support construction of the station.

Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors will be implementing a traffic control change, requiring Crenshaw Blvd to be fully but briefly closed between 39th St and Stocker St on September 20, 2014.   The closure is anticipated to begin 9 pm on Saturday, September 20, until 1 pm on Sunday, September 21, in order to implement the traffic control change.

This work will allow for the establishment of a work zone on the west side of the street in order to install support piles to construct a station box for the Crenshaw/MLK underground station.  Workers will also restripe the street and place K-rail (concrete barriers) and fencing to separate the work area from the road.

Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction during the 4 years of construction.  The left turns lanes on Crenshaw Blvd in both directions will be restored and remain throughout construction.

What to Expect

After the completion of the work, access to businesses during construction will be maintained.  However, during certain stages of the work, pedestrian access may be limited, but maintained. Bus routes in the area will continue to operate, as bus stops within the immediate work area will be temporarily relocated.  For information on bus stop changes, please visit http://www.metro.net/service/advisories/ or by calling 323.GOMETRO.
