Metro Board Awards Contract to Tutor Perini/O & G to Build Section Two of Metro Purple Line Extension Project
LOS ANGELES (January 26, 2017): The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors today awarded a $1.37-billion contract to the joint venture team of Tutor Perini/O & G to build the second section of the Metro Purple Line Extension Project to Century City. The board also established a budget of $2.4 billion for the project.
Key Metro Projects Receive $109 Million in State Cap-and-Trade Funds
LOS ANGELES (August 19, 2017): A new transit station that will help passengers quickly reach LAX terminals and a project to allow more frequent Red/Purple Line subway service were awarded a combined $109 million in state cap-and-trade funds, the California State Transportation Agency announced Tuesday.

LOS ANGELES (June 03, 2016): In the latest L.A. County transit construction milestone, Metro is ready to begin building the Wilshire/La Brea underground station for the Metro Purple Line Extension Project. Beginning Friday night, June 10, portions of Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles will be closed during 22 consecutive weekends for a street decking operation. Residents and motorists are advised to plan ahead, follow street detours and allow extra time to get through the area.
Metro Secures $300 Million in Federal Funds for Rail Projects
LOS ANGELES (February 12, 2016): The U.S. Department of Transportation this week announced that it will appropriate$300 million to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for two major rail projects in Los Angeles County. This federal funding, which was made possible by Congress adopting and President Obama signing into law late last year the Fiscal Year 2016 Omnibus appropriations bill, will benefit both the Regional Connector and Westside Purple Line Extension (Sections 1 and 2) transit projects.
Congress Passes Omnibus Spending Bill – Includes Significant Rail Funding For Metro
LOS ANGELES (December 18, 2015): Earlier today, the U.S. Congress voted to approve an Omnibus spending bill that will provide funding for federal agencies for the balance of Federal Fiscal Year 2016. The Omnibus bill, which is expected to be signed into law by President Obama, includes robust funding for two major rail projects currently being constructed by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). The rail projects securing federal funds in this bill are the Regional Connector, section 1 of the Westside Purple Line Extension (from Wilshire/Western to La Cienega Boulevard and section 2 of the Westside Purple Line Extension (from La Cienega Boulevard to Century City).
Metro Purple Line Extension Contractor to Remove Street Medians along Wilshire Boulevard Near Wilshire/La Brea, Requiring Intermittent Lane Closures
LOS ANGELES (October 12, 2015): The Metro Purple Line Extension contractor plans to remove three street medians along Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles starting Monday, October 12 through Friday October 23, work that will require intermittent lane closures during weekdays only.

Series Of Weekend Wilshire Boulevard Street Closures In Beverly Hills Planned to Conduct Metro Purple Line Utility Relocation Work
LOS ANGELES (September 08, 2015): The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) plans to alternately close a full direction of street traffic on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills over a series of seven consecutive weekends from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, October 25 to conduct advanced utility relocation work for the Metro Purple Line Extension Project. Area motorists are encouraged to use recommended detours to avoid street congestion during these weekend-only work periods.
Metro Invites Small Businesses Along Three Rail Construction Project Corridors to Participate in Metro’s Business Interruption Fund Workshop
LOS ANGELES (June 26, 2015): Metro will be hosting a pilot Business Interruption Fund (BIF) workshop series for three Metro Rail construction projects areas starting Tuesday, June 30, in the Little Tokyo area of the Regional Connector, Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project corridor during July and the Purple Line Extension in Sept. 2015.
Section Two of L.A. Metro's Purple Line Subway Extension Project Included in President Obama's Proposed FY16 Budget
LOS ANGELES (February 02, 2015): Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, business, environmental, labor and community leaders today applauded the inclusion of $100 million in President Obama's proposed FY16 Budget for the second section of the Metro Purple Line Extension Project, calling the action an important step in keeping Metro's planned subway construction toward West Los Angeles on track. The President's budget also recommends that Section 2 of the subway receive a Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) which, if granted, would serve as the commitment to provide federal matching funds for this portion of the subway. Section 1 of the project received an FFGA this past spring. The Mayor also praised the President for including $230 million for Metro's two existing New Starts projects - the Regional Connector and the first section of the Purple Line Extension ($115 million each).
