Topic - Countdown to I-110 ExpressLanes Nov. 10 Opening

In anticipation of the launch of Metro's ExpressLanes project Nov. 10 on the I-110 Harbor freeway and early next year on the I-10 San Bernardino freeway, Metro will hold an interactive Live Chat at metro.net at noon Friday, Nov. 2 to answer questions and hear comments.

Please join our special guest Stephanie Wiggins, Executive Officer of the Metro Congestion Reduction Demonstration Initiative to discuss this project.

L.A. has some of the worst traffic congestion on the planet. We believe Metro's ExpressLanes project, starting Nov. 10, will reduce some of that traffic by providing more choices for commuters.

Metro ExpressLanes is a one-year demonstration along the I-110 and the I-10 freeways that will turn the HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes into HOT (High Occupancy Toll) lanes that allow solo drivers to use the carpool lanes by paying a toll.

But you must open a FasTrak ® account and get a transponder to travel in the HOT lanes. Do you have yours yet?

On Nov. 10, 11 miles of HOV lanes on the I-110 Harbor Freeway (between Adams Boulevard and the 91 freeway) will be transformed into HOT lanes. Carpools and vanpools will not be charged a toll to use the lanes but must open a FasTrak ® account and have a transponder. This will be the first time that solo drivers are allowed to use the ExpressLanes but they will be charged a toll. (General purpose lanes will continue to be toll free.)

Early in 2013, 14 miles of HOV lanes on the I-10 San Bernardino Freeway (between Alameda Street and the 605) will be transformed into HOT lanes. And again, only drivers with transponders will be able to use the lanes.

Send me your comments, questions and concerns (advance questions can be submitted now, on the right side of this page) and I will respond from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2. ExpressLanes are helping to ease congestion in many other parts of the U.S. and the world. We're sure they will help us here.

Looking forward to speaking with you soon.
