The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is poised to launch its “NoHo to Pasadena Express” pilot bus service on Tuesday, March 1 that will provide L.A. area commuters with a better way to access rail lines and other key destinations in both the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys.

Metro Expo 2 Line Extension Opens Friday, May 20, 2016

The second phase of the Expo Line will officially open to Palms, West Los Angeles and Santa Monica on Friday, May 20, Metro CEO Phil Washington announced on Thursday. This will be the first passenger rail transit service to the far Westside since Pacific Electric streetcars stopped running to Santa Monica in 1953.

Bus Detours and Hollywood/Highland Station to close during The Oscars

The 88th Annual Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, Feb. 28 and several Metro Bus Lines are already on detour schedules while preparations continue for the ceremony.

More Test Trains on Gold Line Extension in Preparation for March 5 Opening; Motorists and Pedestrians reminded to “Stop, Look and Listen” around the tracks

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to always “Stop, Look and Listen” before crossing the train tracks along the alignment of the new Metro Gold Line Extension from Sierra Madre Villa to Azusa. The new 11.5-mile extension is Metro’s latest effort to ease traffic congestion and is set to open to the public on Saturday, March 5. In preparation for opening, Metro is now operating additional test trains getting ready for opening day.

Full Closure of 2nd/Broadway Intersection in Downtown Los Angeles Set for Feb. 27 Due to Construction Activities on the Regional Connector Transit Project

Seven Month Closure to last Through November 2016

As part of construction worked related to the Regional Connector Transit Project, full closure of the 2nd Street and Broadway intersection in downtown Los Angeles is planned to begin as early as 7 a.m. on Saturday, February 27 and will last through November, 2016.

METRO TO OFFER FREE RIDES ON NEW METRO GOLD LINE EXTENSION OPENING MARCH 5, COMMUNITY EVENTS PLANNED AT FIVE STATIONS

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will provide free rides on the entire Metro Gold Line on Saturday, March 5 as Metro celebrates the official opening of L.A. County’s newest rail line in the San Gabriel Valley.  Several community events are now planned on the 11.5-mile extension to welcome brand new communities to the service.

Metro Secures $300 Million in Federal Funds for Rail Projects

The U.S. Department of Transportation this week announced that it will appropriate$300 million to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for two major rail projects in Los Angeles County.  This federal funding, which was made possible by Congress adopting and President Obama signing into law late last year the Fiscal Year 2016 Omnibus appropriations bill, will benefit both the Regional Connector and Westside Purple Line Extension (Sections 1 and 2) transit projects.

Metro Praises President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2017 Budget For Recommending $375 Million For LA Rail Projects

Earlier today, the White House released President Obama’s Federal Fiscal Year 2017 Budget that includes robust funding for several Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) projects and programs. Specifically the bill includes a recommendation that $375 million be invested in Metro Rail projects and also includes programmatic funding that will deliver over $600 million in formula funds for Metro in Federal Fiscal Year 2017.  The President’s Budget also includes funding for the successful TIGER grant program ($1.25 billion) and for the low interest federal loan program known as the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program ($275 million).

L.A. Metro, L.A. City Council Member David Ryu Announce Community-Supported Street Closure Schedule for Wilshire/La Brea Metro Purple Line Station Decking

A BRIEF HISTORY OF RAIL IN SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension is set to open on March 5, 2016, bringing passenger light rail deeper into the San Gabriel Valley. However, this isn’t the first time the valley has seen passenger rail – or even electric rail.

METRO UNVEILS AGGRESSIVE PLAN TO BRING PROJECTS TO A “SHOVEL-READY” STATE
