Metro to Launch New Customer Information Videos to Educate and Encourage Riders with Disabilities

Metro’s Accessibility Unit will be launching several Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessibility-related Customer Information videos before the end of the year, beginning with the video ‘Metro: A Customer’s View’ and three video vignettes. Metro strives to ensure that its services are fully accessible to all of our customers, including people with disabilities. The videos are meant to help educate and encourage those with disabilities on how to get around via public transportation so they feel safe and comfortable on Metro Bus and Rail.

Major Gold Line Track Relocation Work to begin January 8th as part of the Regional Connector Transit Project; Metro to Run Bus Shuttle Service

No Gold Line Train Service between Union Station and the Pico/Aliso Gold Line Station

As part of ongoing construction work for the Regional Connector Transit Project, workers will begin the process of relocating existing Metro Gold Line tracks at 1st Street and Alameda Street near downtown Los Angeles in the Little Tokyo area in preparation for the start of tunneling operations.

Congress Passes Omnibus Spending Bill – Includes Significant Rail Funding For Metro

Earlier today, the U.S. Congress voted to approve an Omnibus spending bill that will provide funding for federal agencies for the balance of Federal Fiscal Year 2016.  The Omnibus bill, which is expected to be signed into law by President Obama, includes robust funding for two major rail projects currently being constructed by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). The rail projects securing federal funds in this bill are the Regional Connector, section 1 of the Westside Purple Line Extension (from Wilshire/Western to La Cienega Boulevard and section 2 of the Westside Purple Line Extension (from La Cienega Boulevard to Century City).

Silver Line Express Launched Between Downtown L.A., San Pedro and the Historic Battleship USS Iowa

In the shadow of the regal WWII battleship USS Iowa, Metro Board Chair and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Los Angeles Mayor and Metro Board Member Eric Garcetti, L.A. City Councilman Joe Buscaino and Metro CEO Phil Washington today celebrated the launch of the Metro Silver Line Express – the newest way for commuters from San Pedro to reach downtown Los Angeles and for tourists to access one of L.A. County’s most important and historic war museums: the USS Iowa.

President Obama Signs Long-Term Surface Transportation Authorization Bill Into Law

Earlier today, President Obama signed into law the long-term surface transportation authorization bill recently passed by Congress -- Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act). Yesterday, both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate overwhelmingly passed the new transportation law.  The bill authorizes approximately $305 billion for Highway, Transit and Railroad programs over 5 years ($61 billion per year).  Passage of the FAST Act by Congress and President Obama signing the measure into law today ends a process of Congress repeatedly adopting extensions to the current surface transportation authorization law – MAP-21.

Construction Activities for Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project Continues Moving Forward in December

The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project keeps moving forward during December with construction of the three underground stations, the six bridges and two underground, cut-and-cover segments underway. In Inglewood, the guideway, a pedestrian underpass, and the aerial Aviation/Century station are now under construction.

Metro Board postpones Regional Connector construction near Little Tokyo to minimize impacts during the holidays

To reduce negative impacts of planned construction of the Regional Connector Transit Project during the holiday shopping period, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors today agreed to delay until early January 2016 the closure of the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station and streets in Little Tokyo that were scheduled to begin on December 4, 2015 at 9:00 p.m.

METRO TO PROVIDE FREE BUS SHUTTLE AND VALIDATED PARKING TO SUPPORT BUSINESSES DURING PLANNED LITTLE TOKYO CONSTRUCTION
