Metro Breaks Ground on New Regional Connector Light Rail Project in Downtown Los Angeles

Federal, State & Local Elected Officials Join in Groundbreaking Ceremony

Metro joined U.S Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx along with state and local elected officials today to officially break ground on the $1.420 billion Regional Connector Light Rail Project in downtown Los Angeles that will better connect the Metro Blue, Gold and Expo lines with the rest of the region.

Pledge to share the ride, ease traffic, and be entered to win prizes

Los Angeles is a city long known for the worst congestion in the nation, but people are choosing to improve their commutes by sharing the ride. And to celebrate their commitment to beating traffic, Metro will be issuing 'Get Out of Traffic Licenses' to commuters at four Metro stations and at the Civic Center Clean Air/Rideshare Fair during California Rideshare Week, Oct. 6 - 10.

Metro Conducts Public Hearings on Environmental Document of Proposed Eastside Rail Extension

A series of public hearings conducted by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is set to receive community input to a Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) on a proposed extension of the Metro Gold Line Eastside light rail system from East Los Angeles to either South El Monte or Whittier.  In addition to the two alternatives, the Draft EIR/EIS analyzes a Transportation Systems Management proposal that identifies bus corridor improvements and a no-build option. The environmental document was released August 22, 2014

Southland’s Top Traffic Reporters Honored at Annual Golden Pylon Awards Sept. 23

The coveted Golden Pylon Awards were handed out to the Southland’s top traffic reporters today at Los Angeles Union Station. Downtown Long Beach Loop to Metro Blue Line Closes for 30 Days for Planned Reconstruction
As part of a long-planned $1.2 billion overhaul of the Metro Blue Line, construction activity will center on the downtown Long Beach loop of the light rail system, necessating a 30-day closure and institution of a free bus shuttle to limit inconvenience for commuters, shoppers and business owners beginning Friday, September 20, 2014.

Crenshaw Boulevard to Have Two Full Street Closures this Weekend due to Construction of Crenshaw/LAX Light Rail Line

Metro Presents: Enjoy PARK(ing) Day at Union Station with Special Artist-Designed Lotería Game

Leave your cars in park and join Metro for PARK(ing) Day at Los Angeles Union Station on Friday, September 19, 2014. From noon to 5:30 p.m. artist Alexis Disselkoen will create a temporary park out of a corner of the station's Alameda-facing parking lot. The event is part of Metro Presents, the agency's ongoing program of arts and cultural events at the iconic station.

Metro Fare Changes Offering Free 2-Hour Transfers Starts September 15; No Change in Student K-12 Fares; Reduced Fare Programs Offered

Beginning Monday, September 15, Metro will implement new fare changes that will include for the first time a two-hour period of free transfers on Metro's bus and rail system when using a stored value TAP (Transit Access Pass) card to pay for the base fare. The fare changes, following extensive public hearings and Board approval last May, will raise the price of the base cash fare from $1.50 to $1.75, the Day Pass from $5 to $7, the weekly pass from $20 to $25 and the monthly pass from $75 to $100.

Crenshaw Boulevard to Close Three Weekends to Complete Walls for Underground Crenshaw/Expo Station

Metro and Walsh/Shea Corridor Contractors will close Crenshaw Boulevard between Exposition Boulevard and Coliseum Street for three weekends on Sept. 12, 19 and Oct. 24 to complete pile installation and begin excavation of the underground Crenshaw/Expo station.

Metro Presents: Ethio-Jazz Band Ethio Cali to Perform at Union Station Sept. 12

Los Angeles based Ethio-jazz band Ethio Cali will perform at Los Angeles Union Station on Friday, Sept. 12 as part of Metro Presents, the agency's ongoing program of arts and cultural events at the iconic station. The performance will take place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Fred Harvey Room, a dramatic space that is usually closed to the public.

Metro Gold Line Speeds UCLA Fans to Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena is expected to be sold out on Saturday, September 6, 2014 as UCLA plays its first home football game of the season at 7 p.m. against the University of Memphis and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) encourages fans to avoid traffic congestion and take the Metro Gold Line to the game.
