New Non-emergency #399 Roadside Assistance Cell Phone Number for Los Angeles County Freeway Motorists Starts July 1

Beginning tomorrow, July 1, Metro and the Los Angeles County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (LA SAFE) will begin operating a new non-emergency cell phone number that motorists can use for roadside assistance on Los Angeles County freeways.

Metro Freeway Service Patrol to Expand Midday, Weekend Service July 1

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority today approved a $3.5 million expansion of the Metro Freeway Service Patrol, whose fleet of tow and service trucks relieves freeway congestion by assisting stranded motorists on L.A. County's freeway network.  The expansion will provide midday and weekend service to freeway segments (beats) that currently do not have this service.

Metro Rapid Bus Program to Reach Half Way Point June 27 in Planned 28-Line System

Five years after its two-line debut, the Metro Rapid bus program will reach the half way mark of a planned expansion to 28 lines with the debut of three new lines on Monday, June 27.  The start of service on Fairfax Metro Rapid Line 717, Beverly Metro Rapid Line 714 and Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus Rapid 3 line on Lincoln Boulevard will bring the total number of Rapid bus lines to 14 and expand Rapid service to 205 route miles.

Construction Activities Get Underway Near First and Lorena Streets For Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension construction project continues to keep pace with the widening of First Street on the north side in the vicinity of Lorena Street. The work will accommodate the construction of the tunnel portal, the installation of soldier piles for the portal and the construction of a new retaining wall to the property containing the Los Angeles County Crematorium and new sidewalks.

First of 50 Italian-Made Light Rail Vehicles for Metro Blue, Green and Gold Lines Delivered by Russian Super Transport Plane

In a first for Metro, a super transport jet delivered a new light rail vehicle to Los Angeles, marking the beginning of Metro's 50-car order from Italy's Ansaldobreda S. p. A. Metro and elected officials joined Ansaldobreda executives on the tarmac at LAX's Imperial Terminal as a Russian-built Antonov AN-124 opened its cargo bay to reveal the 2550 Light Rail Vehicle, which was then rolled onto a flatbed truck for delivery to the Metro Gold Line maintenance facility in Los Angeles.
