Installation of new rail

Workers will install a new contact rail and rail ties, install new duct banks, and make other necessary upgrades to the yard, near the 6th Street Bridge. The purpose of this work is to electrify the existing non-powered tail track to allow for a faster train turnaround. The work will be completed in the Metro Division 20 yard.
Work will be ongoing on weekdays for 3 months. Weekday work will be performed from 7am to 4pm.
The construction consists of excavation, trenching, removing and adding a new contact rail, installing rail ties, removing signage in the yard, electrical work, and duct bank installation. Intermittent noise may occur during this activity.
Please note intermittent noise may happen during the construction activity.
The Division 20 Portal Widening and Turnback Facility Project will enhance the Division 20 Rail Yard to allow for improved service times throughout the Metro Red/Purple Line system.
What to Expect
