Overview

Metro’s Community Education department’s goal is to increase safe ridership through informative, site-specific safety programs. The department addresses rail safety through comprehensive, ongoing programs that focus on the Three E’s of rail safety – Education, Engineering and Enforcement.  Within the Community Education Department, the Transit Safety Program (TSP) conducts safety presentations at schools within a 0.5 mile radius of all streets running Metro Lines (Blue, Expo, and Gold). TSP also conducts presentations to senior centers, recreation centers, and local businesses that are located within a 1.5 mile radius of the light-rail lines.

Our second goal is to assist grades 1-12 students, ride the trains safely. This is done through our rail safety presentations which are then followed by a Rail Safety Orientation Tour at the request of schools or centers. Metro Community Education embeds itself in the community for the life of the line; staff returns to the community and organizations annually.
