1. Call To Order
Chair Ellen Blackman called the meeting to order at 10:31 am.

2. Action: Approval of June 9, 2016 minutes
Corrections to the June meeting minutes:

Jeremy Congdon, commented that he had an excused absence for June’s AAC meeting, however, was noted present.

Linda Keeney motioned to approve the minutes as corrected and Kevin Dixon seconded the approval. Minutes were approved, as corrected.

3. Presentation of Metro Service Excellence Award.

Ellen Blackman, AAC Chair, presented the Service Excellence Award to Bus Operators, Deandre White and Avim Jones from Division 1. The Operators each received customer commendations for displaying exceptional work ethics and kindness toward customers with disabilities.

4. Information: AAC Nomination Subcommittee Recommendation

Ben Rockwell, AAC 2 nd Vice Chair, shared the recommendation made by the Nomination Subcommittee. Ellen Blackman was recommended as Chair, Frank Chavez for 1 st Vice Chair, and Christine Leahey for 2 nd Vice Chair.

5. Information: Metro Transfer Design Study

Georgia Sheridan and Tyler Bonstead, representatives of Metro’s Planning department, shared information on the design study regarding transfer points from Metro bus-to-bus, bus-to-rail, or rail-rail/bus. Ms. Sheridan asked AAC Members for suggestions on improvements.

AAC Members commented on the need for bus stops to maintain a consistent design or landmarks that can be used by individuals with visual impairments. Other suggestions included audio signage, accurate information, wheelchair accessibility, cleanliness, and safety.

6. Information: Accessibility Unit Update: Service Animals on Metro/Accessibility Videos

Armando Roman, Accessibility Analyst, presented on Metro’s policy on service animals and the new available brochures containing information on service animals.

Members asked if information will be distributed in other languages. Mr. Roman responded that currently the brochures are in English and Spanish however other languages would be available if requested.

Yvonne Price, Accessibility Program Manager, shared Metro’s accessibility video titled, “Metro Accessibility for All”. The video can be found at www.metro.net/riding/riders-disabilities/ .

Frank Chavez asked if there would be a video made regarding Veterans. Ms. Price responded that the current videos are aimed to address all disabilities. Other member comments included adding information on the location of Braille signage at stations. Public comment was regarding the footage of the audio announcement.

7. Information: Expo/Uber Ridesourcing Promotional Pilot

Colin Peppard, representative from Metro’s Office of Extraordinary Innovation department, reported on a short term partnership program between Metro and Uber.

Member comments included accessibility related concerns with Uber and Uber vehicles blocking bus stops.

8. New Business:

Ben Rockwell, shared news on the passing of Larry Paradis, Disability Rights Advocate’s (DRA) Co-Founder and Executive Director.

Mark Panitz commented on his encounter with a steep ramp at the Downtown Santa Monica station of the Expo line.

9. Public Comment

There was no public comment.

10. Adjournment

Ben Rockwell motioned to adjourn the meeting in memory of Larry Paradis. Motion was seconded by Ellen Blackman. AAC meeting adjourned at 12:34 p.m. in memory of Larry Paradis.
