It is important to me to teach my children (ages 7 and 5) to respect and love cultures other than their own (African American). Each week on Friday we get out the Metro map and plan a trip to a different country (in Los Angeles). Fortunately, we live in a city that has people from so many different countries and cultures. We are committed to public transportation for our adventures and we haven't found a place yet that we can't access via Metro buses and trains. So far this year we have been to Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Little Ethiopia, Koreatown, El Mercado in East LA and Olvera Street. Not only have my kids learned about different people and cultures, but they have learned the advantages of public transportation. Riding Metro buses and trains to the destination is half the fun for them.
