Description

Metro Service Changes During the LA Kings Stanley Cup Championship Parade & Rally

For those planning to go to or travel within Downtown LA on Thursday, June 13, be aware of street closures due to this special event.

Tips for an easier trip during the event

Know before you go

  • Check Planned Service Advisories on our web site for any lines you wish to take.
  • Below, you'll find summaries of service changes that are known in advance.
  • Regular bus service on some lines will be restored as the event progresses and roads reopen, but full service on all lines is not expected to resume until approximately late afternoon.
  • Expect residual delays to continue through the evening on all impacted bus routes.
  • Visit lakings.com/parade for detailed event information.
  • Click here for helpful Metro Safety & Security tips.
  • As a friendly reminder, there is NO eating, drinking or smoking permitted on any Metro train, bus or station.

Know on the go

  • Check our Twitter feed (@metroLAalerts) for the latest information about unplanned events that impact service.  (Even though every effort is made to have information available in advance, traffic restrictions may change and additional detours may be implemented as needed.)
  • Customers may also sign up to receive SMS text alerts via Twitter (no Twitter account or smartphone is needed), by texting "follow metroLAalerts" to 40404.  Standard text msg rates apply by carrier.  Click here for details.
  • In addition to checking our website for alerts, smartphone enabled customers (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, etc) may also view our Mobile optimized website at m.metro.net.
  • Customers may also call 323.GO.METRO for Metro Customer Service during regular business hours.

Consider using Metro Rail instead

While numerous buses will be on detour, we expect rail service to operate normally because they are not impacted by street closures.  Because of this, Metro Rail may be a better option, even if it adds an extra transfer to your trip.

  • Metro Rail will be adding capacity (longer trains) throughout Thursday, in anticipation of increased ridership.
  • Extra trains will be on standby to provide additional trips as needed.
  • Please use entire platform length when boarding for more seating availability.
  • To avoid long lines to buy tickets on your return trip, consider a Metro Day Pass ($5 Adult, $1.80 Reduced Fare), valid for unlimited travel until 3am the following day.

Some Metro Rail Park & Ride lots fill up quickly in the morning

Many of our free Park & Ride lots located throughout our Metro Rail system reach capacity during morning rush hour, particularly along the Red, Blue, Gold (north of Union Sta) Lines, as well as Norwalk and El Monte Bus Station.  Consider these Metro stations which do not typically reach capacity:

  1. All Green Line stations EXCEPT Norwalk, Aviation/LAX, Mariposa.
  2. Van Nuys, Sepulveda, Balboa, Reseda, Pierce College (Winnetka), and Canoga Orange Line stations.
  3. Crenshaw Expo Line Station parking located at West Angeles Parking Structure, just north of station on Crenshaw Bl
  4. Artesia Transit Ctr, Rosecrans, Harbor Fwy, Manchester and Slauson Silver Line stations located along the I-110 Harbor Transitway.  EXTRA Silver Line bus service will be provided on both the I-10 El Monte Busway side and I-110 Harbor Transitway side.  See below for planned detour route.

Impact on Trip Planners and NexTrip

Due to technological limitations, short-term, temporary detours are not able to be reflected in Google Transit, Metro Trip Planner, or NexTrip real time bus arrivals.

  • Google Transit and Metro's Trip Planner will provide transit directions for regularly scheduled service.  Detours will not be reflected in these results, so be sure to check alerts on our website to see if your trip will be affected.
  • NexTrip is unable to make predictions for buses that have detoured away from their normal route because it cannot predict when the bus will return to its normal route.
  • While NexTrip will continue to work normally for most lines and stops, buses that are presently on detour will not show in predictions at stops further down the route until it is back on its normal route.  Further, stops that are only temporarily served by some buses may not show them in results for that stop.  This applies to predictions on our website, via text message, 3rd party apps, and on digital signage that displays real time arrival predictions.

Planned Detour Information
