Metro School Pool Tips

Carpool to School

  • Establish ground rules
  • Parents must have proper insurance and driver’s licenses
  • Children should be ready and waiting
  • Always use seat belts
  • Decide what, if any, music can be played, and what food, if any, can be eaten en route
  • Keep a timetable, but allow a margin of time for lateness

Walking and Bicycling Safety

  • Mind all traffic signals and/or the crossing guard -- never cross the street against a light, even if you don't see any traffic coming
  • Walk bicycles through intersections
  • Go with a buddy
  • Wear reflective material...to be more visible to street traffic

Bus Safety

  • Never run after or next to a moving bus
  • Have a safe place to wait for the bus, away from traffic and the street
  • Be aware of the street traffic
  • Stay away from the bus until it comes to a complete stop
  • Use the handrail to enter and exit the bus
  • Keep all body parts inside the bus
  • Exit through the rear doors whenever possible
  • When being dropped off, exit and step away from the bus

Rail Safety

  • Never run after or next to a moving train
  • Stay away from the train until it comes to a complete stop
  • Always stand away from the edge of platform
  • Don’t skate or ride a bike on the platform, stairs or escalators
  • Watch the gap between the platform and train
  • Don’t lean against train doors; keep hands clear
  • Never climb railroad vehicles
  • Never walk or play on the railroad track
