Bike Safety
Treat Orange Line intersections like railroad
crossings.
Metro Liners are large buses that can travel at speeds up to 50 miles
per hour and need at least 250 feet to stop. Always obey the signals and
treat flashing Bus signs just like train gates. Assume the worst and
don’t “cross the tracks.”
Always be alert at intersections.
Hazards come from every angle and include pedestrians, cars and 60-foot
long buses. You never know what’s around the corner, and you must always
be alert and prepared for anything.
Obey all signals.
Traffic and crosswalk signals help you get across intersections safely.
Never enter an intersection on a green light meant for buses. Use
pedestrian and private vehicle signals to help guide you through
intersections.
Never ride on the transitway, you will be cited.
The Orange Line transitway is reserved for large buses with no room to
spare for bikes. Since fences surround the right-of-way, there are no
exits or escape routes. Always use the bikeway which includes bike paths
and bike lanes.
