Bike to Work Calculator

Bike to Work Day is not just an opportunity for you to exercise and be healthier, but it’s an opportunity to do your part for the environment and reduce your global footprint.  Use this calculator to see how much you can save on CO2 emissions by riding your bike to work, not just on Thursday, May 15, but everyday!

Don’t forget to pledge to ride your bike and get counted.  You’ll also get entered to win fabulous prizes, including a folding bike from REI!

Thank you to our 2008 partners and sponsors!

Here's the math

Using your bicycle (leaving your automobile at home) for one 10-mile trip* results in the following gas savings:

  • .5 gallons of gasoline*
  • Amount saved at current average price of gasoline (based on Premium gas prices in California according to AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report)
  • Burning 1 gallon of gas in your automobile creates 20 pounds of carbon dioxide
