Construction Notice - July 24

ATTENTION COMMUTERS, RESIDENTS, AND BUSINESSES IN THE VICINITY OF THE SAN DIEGO FREEWAY (I-405) AND SKIRBALL CENTER DRIVE

The contractor will implement full directional freeway closures beginning the night of Tuesday, July, 24, 2012 for approximately two weeks to prepare and conduct the demolition of the south half of the Skirball Bridge. Each night, ramps within the freeway closure limits will begin to close as early as 7:00 pm and freeway lanes will begin to close as early as 10:00 pm, leading up to the full directional freeway closure between the hours of 12:00 am, midnight,  to 5:00 am. See table below for closure location and schedule.

Skirball Bridge demolition involving full directional freeway closures

When:        

Work is anticipated to begin on the night of Tuesday, July, 24, 2012 and last approximately two weeks. Each night, ramps within the freeway closure limits will begin to close as early as 7:00 pm and freeway lanes will begin to close as early as 10:00 pm, leading up to the full directional freeway closure between the hours of 12:00 am, midnight, to 5:00 am.

Northbound I-405 freeway from Getty Center Drive to Ventura Blvd.
(freeway lanes closures staring at 10:00 pm)

July. 26, 27, & 31,
August 1, 2, & 3

Skirball Bridge Closure (closure between 10 :00 pm to 6:00 am)

July 30 – August 3

What to expect:

  • Sepulveda Blvd. will remain open during the nights of bridge demolition and be used as a detour route. 
  • After the bridge demolition is complete, the contractor will begin the reconstruction of the south half of Skirball bridge    
  • Emergency access will be maintained on the bridge at all times.
  • Pedestrians will be rerouted to an area outside the construction zone.
  • Please note that the work is weather permitting and subject to change.
