Overview

The Restoration of Historic Streetcar Service (Streetcar) project is an effort under study by Metro to restore streetcar service to Downtown Los Angeles in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, the Community Development Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA) and several other public agencies and stakeholders.

The Streetcar will provide an invaluable service weaving together various Downtown districts, helping to revitalize Downtown LA's historic core and connecting people to employment centers, shopping districts, civic resources, cultural institutions, historic landmarks and entertainment venues within the project study area.

The Streetcar project will also play a key role in supporting several local development initiatives such as Bringing Back Broadway, the GoLAstreetcar Initiative, planned street improvement plans and proposed design guidelines, to name a few. The Streetcar, in concert with local afforts, will reignite interest in Downtown's historic significance and help stimulate economic revitalization.

Project Study Area (PSA)

The Streetcar PSA is bounded by State Route 110 to the west, Washington Bl to the south, Los Angeles St to the east, Cesar Chavez Av to the north with an eastern extension stretching north of Cesar Chavez Av along New High St and Alameda St just north of College St.

Districts within the PSA include the Historic Broadway District, Chinatown, El Pueblo, Bunker Hill, the Financial Business District, South Park and the LA Civic Center.
