Be an advocate for health and Go Metro to the Sixth Annual Inner City Sports Tour Health Fair & Festival on Saturday, May 30, and receive two free raffle tickets. Hosted by the nonprofit organization City Lites, celebrities, dignitaries, residents and cyclists will be uniting to “fight against obesity and diabetes”.
Eighty percent of type II diabetes is related to obesity in America and the percentage of overweight children ages 6 to11 has almost doubled since the 1980’s, while the percentage of overweight adolescents has risen by nearly 300 percent.
All Los Angeles area residents are invited to participate in the 23 and 5 mile Bike Tour or Five Mile Walk which begins at 9 a.m. The 23-mile Bike Tour will begin at Jesse Owens Park, located at Western Avenue and Century Boulevard along the route of Metro Rapid Line 757. The Five mile Bike Tour and Five mile Walk will being at Earvin (Magic) Johnson Park, located at 120th Street between Central Avenue and Avalon Boulevard near the Metro Rail Green Line Avalon Station.
There also will be a free health fair and festival from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. featuring cultural entertainment, food booths, live music, activities for children, and community resources including the American Diabetes Association and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. The event is being dedicated in memory of LAPD Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner.
When Metro riders go up to the City Lites booth and show their valid Metro Pass, Metro Rail ticket, or Destination Discounts card, they will receive two free raffle tickets to win prizes valued at $25 or more.
