Go Metro to the First Pasadena Marathon, Sunday, March 22

Metro is the easy way to reach the first Pasadena Marathon, Sunday, March 22, since the Metro Gold Line is within blocks of the route. And don't forget that public transportation helps protect the air runners -- and the rest of us -- breathe by removing pollution-producing cars from the road.

Originally scheduled for November, 2008, the marathon was cancelled out of concern for the health of the participants. Burning wildfires that week had released heavy smoke and ash and created unsafe air quality.

In addition to the marathon on March 22 there will be a half marathon, a bike tour, a 5K race and a Fun Run/Walk. The race course and walk pass areas of interest throughout the city, including beautiful residential neighborhoods, commercial districts and numerous cultural landmarks.

There also will be a race-inspired Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, March 20, from noon to 7 p.m., and on Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Pasadena Convention Center. The Finish Line Festival will be held on race day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pasadena City College. Both start and finish lines will be at Pasadena City College.

For further information about the Pasadena Marathon, go to www.pasadenamarathon.org. Kaiser Permanente is presenting sponsor of the Pasadena Marathon.

To find out how to get to the race and related events, go to the Metro Trip Planner at metro.net or call 1-800-COMMUTE. And remember that the Metro Gold Line will take you to Pasadena. Then it's your choice whether to hop on a bus to reach your chosen race destination or to walk, bike or, perhaps, to run.
