Now in its fourth year, Lummis Day takes its name from one of Los Angeles' founders, Charles Fletcher Lummis, who joined the Los Angeles Times in 1876 as the newspaper's first city editor. A prolific writer and photographer who also was one of the city's first librarians, Lummis founded the Southwest Museum, was a published poet and author and helped introduce the concept of multiculturalism to Southern California.
