Take a budget-friendly family outing to the free Leimert Park Village Book Fair on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Go Metro and save even more money with a discount on Fair mercandise.
Returning for its third year, the Book Fair will feature more than 150 authors, writing workshops, cooking demonstrations, musical performances, poetry readings, panel discussions and a Children’s Village. Theme of this year’s Fair will be “Celebrating Our Literary Legacy: Our Heritage, Our Words, Our Stories.” Authors and poets at the festival, including Maryum “May May” Ali, will sign copies of their works. Ali will also read from her biography, “I Shook Up The World,” which is based on life with her father, famed boxer Muhammad Ali.
When Metro riders go to the Book Fair information booth and show their valid Metro pass, Metro Rail ticket or Destination Discounts card, they will receive a 20 percent discount on Book Fair merchandise, including T-shirts, book bags and bookmarks. Metro riders who show proof of having purchased at least one book at the Book Fair will also receive a free bookmark.
