VIEWPOINT

TO: Letters to Sports Editor, Los Angeles Times
FROM: Marc Littman, DEO, Public Relations

Kurt Streeter's May 24, 2009 marathon column refers to local public transit as "pitiful," which is ironic since thousands of runners and spectators use Metro Rail to access the racecourse because it's the best way to beat traffic and parking hassles for an annual event that causes major traffic disruption in Los Angeles. The subway stations are within easy walking distance of the course and a roundtrip costs less than a gallon of gas. Yet, in Streeter's column and all of the Times' advance coverage and maps for the marathon, there is no mention of this convenient option. Talk about pitiful.
