MTA to Expand Metro Rail Late Night Hours of Service Effective Sunday, Oct. 20
MTA is expanding Metro
Rail late night hours of operation to allow late night workers, residents
and tourists a way to and from their entertainment venue or place of
employment. Whether you’re working late, attending a concert, a game,
the theater or visiting your favorite restaurant or club, Metro Rail can
get you there and back. “This is fantastic
news for thousands of late night workers and individuals who use Metro
Rail to attend a host of entertainment venues in the greater Los Angeles
area,” said MTA Board Chairman Hal Bernson. “Extending the hours of
operation for the entire Metro Rail system will make using it very
convenient and that much easier.” Effective Sunday, Oct.
20 a full hour of service will be added to the late night schedules of the
last north and southbound trains on the Metro Blue Line between Long Beach
Transit Mall and downtown Los Angeles and the last eastbound Metro Red
Line subway train from North Hollywood. The last east and
westbound Metro Red Line trains operating between Union Station and
Wilshire/Western will leave 40 minutes later than currently scheduled. The
last westbound Metro Red Line train from Union Station to North Hollywood
departs 40 minutes later than currently scheduled. On the Metro Green Line
between Norwalk and El Segundo, the last eastbound train will leave 20
minutes later from the Marine/Redondo station and the westbound train from
Norwalk will operate 10 minutes later. “In talking with
various individuals within the communities we serve, it became apparent
that late-night service needed to be added to Metro Rail,” said MTA CEO
Roger Snoble. “We’ve been getting requests to expand our service to
Staples Center, Hollywood and beyond for people attending events that run
past our closing time.” The following are
specific last-run times for all Metro Rail lines beginning Oct. 20:
