Acceleration of Measure R Highway Projects

The 30/10 Initiative was recently introduced to accelerate Measure R transit projects in LA County. At the same time, the Metro Board of Directors adopted a policy to combine long-term countywide sales tax revenue from Measure R with alternative project delivery and financing methods for highway projects.

Metro is working to develop a strategy that will expedite the construction of some Measure R highway projects. A key aspect of this program is the use of public-private partnerships, contracting with the private sector for upfront funding to complete the projects sooner.

The benefits of accelerating the highway projects in Measure R are:

  • Create tens of thousands of jobs, beginning with the design and construction phases and continuing through future operation and maintenance activities, which will improve the local economy.
  • Reduce traffic congestion, saving thousands of hours of travel time and improve LA County air quality.
