Metro to update community on proposed new maintenance facility for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor light rail project
Metro will hold a Community Open House on Wednesday, December 1, in the City of Hawthorne to update the community on various proposed sites for a maintenance facility selected for environmental review as part of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project light rail line.
The meeting will take place at Del Air Park, located at 12601 Isis Avenue, Hawthorne from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Metro staff is looking at four sites for a new maintenance facility, required for the operation of a new light rail transit line to store, maintain, repair and clean light rail vehicles. The four sites to be examined are in the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, Hawthorne, and Redondo Beach.
The issues to be addressed include; displacement, relocation, employment changes, traffic access, noise and land use policies, all of which will be incorporated into an Environmental Assessment/Recirculated Draft Environmental Impact Report (EA/RDEIR).
The EA/RDEIR focuses solely on the maintenance facility issues and is a supplemental to the Original Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIS/EIR).
The four candidate sites are currently under a detailed environmental review in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The EA/RDEIR is planned to be completed and released in early 2011 with a formal comment period and public hearing at that time.

The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor is a 8.5 mile light rail line that will extend from the intersection of Exposition and Crenshaw boulevards to the Metro Green Line's Aviation/LAX station. The project will serve the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, Hawthorne, and El Segundo and portions of the unincorporated Los Angeles County.
