Street Work to Get Underway at Three San Fernando Valley Locations as Part of Metro Orange Line Construction

(Los Angeles) - Street work will begin at three San Fernando Valley locations this week as part of construction of the Metro Orange Line, a 14-mile busway that will begin service between Warner Center and the Metro Red Line North Hollywood Station in August 2005. The schedule is as follows:

North Hollywood and Valley Village - Nighttime construction is scheduled to take place in the intersection of Chandler Boulevard and Whittsett Avenue between 7 p.m., April 19 and 7 a.m., April 20. The work will consist of removing and repainting lane striping to shift the traffic lanes on Whitsett Avenue. Ongoing intersection reconstruction includes excavating the existing intersection and installing underground electrical lines, grading and repaving, constructing new curbs, gutters and crosswalks and creation of left-hand turn lane pockets on Chandler Boulevard. Construction is typically expected to take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Occasional night work will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Van Nuys - Work on Hazeltine Avenue is scheduled to begin April 20 and last for approximately three to five months. Nighttime construction is planned between 7 p.m., April 20 and 7 a.m., April 21. Intersection reconstruction will include excavating the existing intersection, grading and repaving, modifying pavement striping and traffic signal systems, and constructing new curbs, gutters and crosswalks. Construction is typically expected to take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Occasional night work will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Woodland Hills - Work to reconstruct a portion of Mason Avenue just north of Victory Boulevard will begin April 21. Nighttime construction is scheduled to take place between 7 p.m., April 21 and 7 a.m., April 22. Intersection reconstruction will include excavating the existing intersection, grading and repaving, modifying pavement striping and traffic signal systems, and constructing new curbs, gutters and crosswalks. Construction is typically expected to take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Occasional night work will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
