Metro Begins Track Installation for Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension in Little Tokyo/Arts District

First Street, between Alameda and Vignes streets, in the Little Tokyo/Arts District in downtown Los Angeles will have nighttime partial street closures on August 6, 7, 13 and 14 to begin installation of the rail track for the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension.

This partial street closure will affect traffic heading eastbound on First Street from 6 p.m. through 6 a.m. Motorist traveling eastbound on First Street will be detoured northbound to Alameda, eastbound on Commercial Street until Vignes Street and southbound until First Street. Westbound traffic will not be affected.

Local access will be provided for Garey and Hewitt streets businesses and residents and access to Savoy's complex garage and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in 2009.
