Metro construction crews closed the intersection of Third Street and Downey Road in East Los Angeles for street renovation work for the weekend beginning Friday, March 23 until Sunday, March 25 as the construction project for the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension continues moving forward.Work was scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Construction continues on Third Street from Downey Road to Eastern Avenue, which will be closed to eastbound traffic on Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday March 29. Work has been scheduled in the early hours from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to avoid traffic during the daytime peak hours.
In both construction sites, residents should expect traffic cones, concrete barriers and signs to re-direct traffic in this area. Pedestrians also will be re-routed to safe areas out of the construction zones. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
On First Street in Boyle Heights, the north side of the intersection with Utah Street will be closed for the next 10 days, beginning the week of March 26 for street renovation work.
Work has been scheduled Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted around the construction zone, access to homes and businesses will be coordinated. The construction area will be securely fenced off. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in late 2009.
