L.A. Metro to Hold Community Meeting for Metro Orange Line Extension September 2
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will be hosting a community briefing and construction update on the Metro Orange Line Extension Project Thursday, September 2 in Canoga Park, and invites public attendance.
The meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the LAPD Topanga Community Police Station’s Community Room at 21501 Schoenborn Street, Canoga Park, CA 91304.
Now under construction, the Metro Orange Line extension will extend four miles north from Canoga Station to the Chatsworth Metrolink/Amtrak Station. Plans call for the transformation of the Metro-owned right-of-way into an attractive landscaped busway similar to the existing Metro Orange Line corridor. Major features will include four stations at Sherman Way, Roscoe, Nordhoff and Chatsworth, a new 207-space park & ride facility at the Sherman Way Station, expanded parking at Chatsworth Station, landscaping, three bridges, and parallel bicycle and pedestrian paths.
The meeting will discuss recent construction progress, which includes the demolition of vacant structures along the alignment, utility undergrounding work and bridge excavations adjacent to Lassen Street, and other planned construction activities in advance of the project’s expected completion date of summer 2012. The public will have the opportunity to review project renderings showing advanced designs for stations, park & ride lots, bike and pedestrian paths, bridges and landscaping.
When completed, the extension will add new north-south mobility options in the West San Fernando Valley and create a vital connection between Metro Orange Line service and the broader inter-urban rail system spanning all counties of Southern California and beyond.
