Sunset Bridge Traffic Reconfiguration, K-Rail Placement Planned May 7-10
In preparation for the demolition and reconstruction of the Sunset Bridge, the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening Project contractor will reconfigure traffic and place concrete barriers (k-rail) on the Sunset Boulevard Bridge between Church Lane and Thurston Street May 7-10.
What: Sunset Bridge traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. This configuration will be in place for approximately 10 months.
When:In preparation for traffic configuration, the contractor will be working on the Sunset Bridge during day time and night time hours starting May 3, 2010 through May 7, 2010. Traffic reconfiguration work is anticipated to start at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010 through 6 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010.
Where: Sunset Boulevard between Church Lane and Thurston Street.
What to expect:
- Sunset Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic the night of Friday, May 7, 2010 and Saturday, May 8, 2010 for traffic reconfiguration.
- Traffic signals will be temporarily moved to accommodate the new traffic reconfiguration.
- Reconfiguration of lanes will be followed by the placement of k-rail.
- Ramp closures will be in effect for northbound I-405 on-and-off ramps on Sunset Boulevard and for the eastbound Sunset Boulevard-southbound I-405 on ramp when the Sunset Bridge is fully closed. Ramp closures will be coordinated with Caltrans, and may start as early as 7 p.m.
- Pedestrians will be rerouted to an area outside the construction zone.
- Traffic control officers will be on-site to direct traffic.
- Detour: Westbound Sunset Boulevard traffic will be detoured to Sepulveda Way, to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard to southbound Church Lane, back to westbound Sunset Boulevard. Eastbound Sunset Boulevard traffic will be detoured to northbound Church Lane to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard to eastbound Sepulveda Way to continue eastbound on Sunset Boulevard. Note: During the full closure of Sunset Boulevard, traffic will be allowed to make a left turn from Sepulveda Way to eastbound Sunset Boulevard.
- Emergency access will be maintained on the bridge at all times.
Detour maps will be available at www.metro.net/405 prior to the related work activities starting.
Note: On May 7, 2010, a six-month closure for the LADWP – 29 Improvement Project will go into effect on Church Lane between Sunset Boulevard and Kiel Street. The City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is coordinating their closure of Church Lane with the I-405 Project.
